"There's only one thing certain female tennis and that is that nothing is certain...."
So Megan falls to pieces, Savannah comes through two tight ones when the other player looked more likely to win (to those watching) and Mia Eklund has a good week last week and then goes AWOL in her match and Emma causes an upset that was not at all on paulisi's prediction list.
Shame about Katie but so much more sensible to be prudent.
Very pleased for Emma (saw her play a good game of doubles last summer).
That's a good looking win by Emma. I saw quite a bit of Mia Eklund, her Finnish opponent, in Glasgow and she looked to me capable of higher than her 900s ranking, but yes she did then also have some temperament issues, not exactly reacting with Scandinavian calm to the number of match points she failed to convert against a higher ranked opponent, though she came through that match in the end.
Looks like the "tightness" Katie Swan had in her leg last week may have been a bit worse than they though, but still hopefully nothing particularly serious.

For the third UK $10K in as many weeks, Harriet is once again in the top 2 seeds, and once again not playing with a Brit (perhaps there is a correlation )
Should Holly & Savannah win, they can probably reward themselves with a decent cup of coffee from one of their opponents. (Hey! it's close enough!)

Some feedback from today Katie Swan withdrew with the same leg injury from Fed Cup that she had a problem with again last week. It's a shame, but a sensible decision.
Maia v Hannah - good standard match and very impressed with Hannah, who had her Bolton coach with her today. Hannah had early breaks in the first set, but Maia played the first set very solidly and won it easily. Second set Hannah played very well and went 4-1 up, but got pegged back to 5-5. It went to a tie break, which was really tight and Maia sneaked it 8-6. Maia needs to work on the serve. It's a bit erratic at times. Her ground shots and court prowess are excellent and she played a lot better than yesterday, but I get the feeling that there is plenty more to come. Hannah I was very impressed with. She played a lot better than yesterday and really pushed Maia. Big swingy serve was very effective and produced some nice angles. Definitely a name to look out for. Megan started very well. She was leading by a break for quite a while, although struggling to consolidate and then the other girl starting hitting winners left, right and centre and Megan struggled with serve and groundshots and I think she lost 9 on the bounce. However yesterday's performance and the first half of today's match indicate there is a future in tennis with a little big of improvement and consistency.
Mollie was totally outclassed by a girl who will be the big danger this week as she was always a good top 200 player and i'm guessing she has had injuries
Didn't see much of Kato's match or Holly v Savannah, but Holly was 3-0 up early on.
As Indy said Mia Eklund is a huge talent, but totally lost it again. Mind you don't take anything away from Emma, who played some excellent tennis(best I've seen her play). Mia starting mouthing off regularly in the first set, she burst into tears during the set and then got a code violation for verbal abuse and told to calm down. Her coach said she just wasn't right in the head today, however Jodie said she did similar things when she played her a couple of weeks ago.
Finally Eden v Lauryn and I was an excellent match. Two talented players with big games. Eden played much better than yesterday and duly took the first set with some excellent play. Lauryn's levels upped in set 2 and deservedly came through that and ran away with the third set. To be fair the scoreline flatter Lauryn as she injured her shoulder half way the final set and ended up serving under arm in the last game. Eden has a good serve, decent forehand and is very good approaching the net. However her big strength is the return of serve. If she can stay fit, the game is there to play on the senior circuit. Lauryn has got everything to do well on the main tour(reminds me a little of Freya, but with more variety). Very powerful game, she is decent round the net, very solid on the baseline and very athletic, which means she is defensively very good. In fact she is tactically aware as well as Eden's success early on was due to her approach play to the net, but Lauryn started lobbing her, which forced Eden back and put her back in control I've now seen all the top juniors in the 16-17 age group and Lauryn is probably the pick of them(bar Katie S) and i'm very surprised she has not had any LTA funding for some time.
Tomorrow will be interesting and some tough draws for the Brits, but I expect some success.

Sadly the draws aren't great. 2 all GB clashes and i'm hopeful Maia will come through. Jazzamay and Lauryn have the best chances of the rest. Emily A beat Lauryn's opponent last week.
Forgot to mention - no sign of Beechy, so he was there primarily for Georgie. Mel is still there with her Bath contingent. There was a different coach watching over Jodie, I assume from West Hants and Gosling had a representative who looked after Savannah and Harriet
Believe Jodie has now moved to Virgin Chiswick where Georgie Axon is based and where Beechy is a coach so assume he was there for both of them. Maybe he wasn't free today and they sent another coach. The Gosling coach may also have been looking after Mollie as I think she trains there. I have seen her at tournaments though with what appears to be her own 'travelling' coach (ie not a Goslings person).
