Ms Appleton, E. is in a tight fought first set, coming back from behind against a girl from a European nation which is not far from Holland.

Katie wins!

6-3 6-7(6) 6-3

VERY impressive serving in the final set. Even with that wobble at 4-2, she only dropped four points and had a first serve percentage of 68% which is well above average for Katie.

Katie did well to refocus there. She isn't fully fit and has a problem with her left leg. In the game 0-40 down she hit a ball definitely out but the other girl stopped and Katie won the next 4 points to hold, and that was the turning point. Deserved to win but a bit flat, needs to move her feet more on the forehand return!

Harriet 6-1 1-4* vs Maia

9 breaks of serve so far in 12 games. From watching various girls last week I did see a lot of the serve returns being the initial initiative shot of rallies, especially on second serves, so returnees doing well.

That's the stage many girls are at with good ground strikes, but serves that are still developing, but should hopefully become stronger.

Emily Appleton only really came to my attention towards the end of last year. Is she looking like a future prospect to any with more knowledge of her?
