I agree with what you say about expectations vs rankings, indi, and that this is about a 'par' result. But I'd also hope for a bit of a home advantage, just because the peskies have further to travel, don't like the food + throw in a bit of crowd support, if only from a few fellow competitors, and I'd see reasons to hope that results at a home tourney might be just a bit better.
Slightly surprised that both Maia and KatieB used a second WC each here - understand that in Glasgow, it's Maia's hometown and KB' first tournament for a year. I think both could have played their way through qualies, easily.
The doubles draw is up, with surprising absences, and some new names.

I have said in both the men's and women's threads that one would hope for a bit of home advantage, m'lord.
Indeed I thus said I was a bit ( though rather less than some ) disappointed with the men's 'ranking par ' results and with a bigger sample. In truth I am neither really surprised or disappointed by the women's qualifying results, considering the match-ups, while obviously always would like more.

Maia and KatieB are the two unaccounted-for wildcards.
Can anybody tell me what the limit is for WCs for each player, per year? Ta.

I believe it's 3 main draw and 6 qualifying draw for ITF tournaments. WTA wildcards are in addition to this. However, a wildcard only counts as being used if ranking points are scored, so losing in the first round of a $10,000 event doesn't register.
Emily Appleton gets a nice one, against fellow qualifier, Zimmerann
Poor jazzamay gets the real short straw, against the 2nd seed, Arcangioli
Kaite Swan will play Sara Ottomano, the girl who beat Manisha convincingly.
Katie B doesn't have the easiest draw, with a decent French player who's been around for a while.
I'm going for Harriet to beat Maia, which is against form, and nothing against Maia, but she might find it hard to get going again, after the buzz of last week. And Harriet sure needs a win or three .....
Just finished watching Boulter, she looks well, always get she was ahead to be fair. The other lass got a ridiculous net cord after a 20 shot rally on MP1 but Katie did very well to refocus and take the next two.
Now watching swan for the first time, early indications are that she'll have too much for this girl.
Great to see Katie B continuing in good vein. I just wish she'd sent me a memo before I wimped out of putting her in my GB top 10, having had her as GB 4 for last year ).
Emily A lost in straight sets
Katy v Katie B should be very interesting. Also given they are good friends. At least Katie B has her second scorer and bar a few dodgy draws in Sharm should get her ranking back soon.
