Not entirely surprised by Katie Swan losing - I've seen Kathinka Von Deichmann play before and she can be very handy, but streakiness anchors her ranking a bit.
Disappointing result on paper but unsurprising in context. She would have anticipated these being her first competitive matches of the year when doing her scheduling and instead it ended up being just a few days after the biggest matches of her senior career to date. Katie is not the first British woman in recent times to find that playing in a tournament the week after Fed Cup is challenging.
Katie just wasn't getting enough of a look in on von Deichmann's serve. Very solid throughout. One positive Katie can take however is every service game she had break points, she broke. I would imagine it's more than likely that the medical timeout was for her, so hopefully there isn't too much of an issue and she can challenge deep into the draw next week at the Wirral.
Would hope that Maia would win today but as I hoped harriet would win yesterday and she didn't, that might be putting the mockers on her so I'll just say: have a good match !
Emily app's match has also finished but, given the time lag, there's a high chance there was a third set so who knows.....

Totally understandable loss for Katie S, having watched her yesterday. Today was a stepup and her opponent has quality having taken care of one of our top juniors comfortably yesterday, and only being beaten by the eventual winner last week. When Katie's schedule was put together they would have assumed that the Fed Cup experience would have just been a training week, of course instead it turned into one of the best weeks of her tennis life. Hopefully with a few days rest she can reenergise herself for next week. Katie's team will have set targets ranking wise for this year, but at the same time they're not going to push it too hard, as Katie hopefully has a long and very succesful tennis career in front of her.
