RE: Murray v Davydenko

Great returning gets Andy to 0-30

Long rally and Andy misses.

Good return but Andy hit an error.

No, Davy pulls out his best tennis for 40-30

Wild double fault. Deuce.

and Davydenko just holds on.

gsm davydenko. 6-3 in the third.  Never mind andy, you gave him a run for his money.  No pushover, davydenko knows he's been in a match and some of that third set was great stuff from both players.

Nervy game. Lots of errors. Most of them from Andy.

Game set match Davydenko.

This was a good chance missed. Andy needs to start matches faster and he needs to start third sets faster.

ah' well, I suppose it's another learning experience for the lad, just wish I could watch a match or two, just to see with mine own eyes what the lad's doing and where he is going right or wrong. great critic me.

Night all

Cheers

Geo.

Yes, at least there is still the Sunrise where he can get points, and not all those around him in the table are entered there.

I'm upset that he lost, but after the 1st set it was close and even the 1st was closer than the scoreline suggests.

He beat Roddick, admittedly badly out of form; he beat Hewitt, though Hewitt is not at the top of his form either; he lost to Ljubicic and Davydenko, both in very good form, but by no means disgraced himself with either of them. He can compete with the top 10 players - and really you cannot ask for more than that at this stage.

It does show how far Andy has come that you can say that after a loss in 3 sets to the no 5 player in the world !

By the way looking at the stats it looks as if Davydenko returned superbly,  52% receiving points won when Andy was getting 66% of first serves in ( quite high for him ).  For these watching, was that the case ?

No cushions left!  But good showing from Andy.  It was always an outside chance to win this one.  My view is that he showed he is getting closer to the next ranking band!

BTW  Wild Hedgehog showed up at start of final set.

At 18 Andy is good enough to mix it on even terms with players up to number 3 in the world but he can't give them a head start. When Davydenko got his nose in front he was a completely different player and Andy would have needed to play virtually flawless tennis to turn it arround.

It is another hard lesson he needs to learn.

Is that such a good idea ?!

I think he should take time to work further at his game and take time off from matches.

I don't know if he's chasing ranking points, but it seems conterproductive to me.  At the end of the year, he will only be able to count his best 5 'other' results ( assuming he competes in every GS and Masters Series event ), whereas he must count every GS and Masters Series event he is eligible for.

Far better, I would think, to be in ther best shape possible for Miami, and hope that if he gets through the 1st round he doesn't run into Federer in the 2nd round.
