Weird set, played ok, opponents not great but couldn't make anything happen.
Yes. Only saw 6 or 7 points but in all of them Namigata was ineffectual, at best. Nervous maybe ? (and as I type she's just hit a decent return that wins the point - maybe she'll relax in the second set).
Oh drat! Really could have won that. I thought they had it at *8-7 but they played two quite poor points to lose the initiative at just the wrong time which was a real shame. Namigata threw in a double at *6-5 as well which didn't really help when her ball toss went off at 90 degrees. Didn't do anything wrong on their match point at 11-10*.
Real heartbreaker, and it means that Em has lost her last 6 match tie breaks, which isn't a nice run to have.
Definitely a big, and important, chance missed, their opponents weren't really "into" the match. Those 60points would have been a nice boost after losing Midland, but Em overall played pretty well (although her first serve lacked a bit of bite) today, very sharp around the net.
Sore one, but needs to dust down and hope for some magic next week in her beloved India.

As CD said was very, very close but no cigar. 4th seeds have been shown the exit door, so to rub salt into the wounds it would have been a local pair in the quarters
