Really hope Beth and Olivia have a good run in the doubles. They only just missed out on a seeding and most of the seeds are in trouble, whilst they have come through easily against Fran W and Lisa P.

Well, given my 'doom and gloom' prognosis, and paulisi only going for two to get through, ending up with four women in the next round is a very good result !

Maia and Alex H also won their doubles too

Young Alex picks up a win in the doubles with Maia and both will get their first doubles ranking.

Pity about Fran, seems to have been a decent performance. Unfortunately due to an amazingly stubborn and resolute Ms Hering who just refused to capitulate in the second set against Eklund and seemed bent on creating some sort of record in MPs saved from *4-5 0-40 and then in a huge long game at *5-6 ( she won the second set TB but did lose the final set 6-2 ) I had to leave Fran to it when she finally got on.

With all the family benefits that Emily App gets, it obviously helps.

But I think her family are doing an amazing job.

The one thing that (for me) stuck out about her when I saw her last year was not her tennis as such (seemed pretty good, all round, but not amazing) but the fact that she really seemed to enjoy her tennis.

She was certainly trying, but played as though it was fun, without 'suffering' out there and beating herself up over every missed shot or indulging in amateur dramatics.

I thought that her coaches (her Dad?) were doing very well - it's important and not that common (there are a lot of juniors, and a couple of British ones in particular, who look as though every shot is killing them and tennis is like an albatross around their necks). And when I heard she got 10 A*s at GCSE, I was even more impressed.

Best of luck to her.

Yes, Emily certainly just gets on with it, does her stuff and did it pretty well today and as you say no dramatics. She did look pretty chuffed at the end, good luck to her.  I'd agree she looked a bit of an all rounder, difficult to pick anything outstanding but very effective.

The harder you work the luckier you get.

Although the phrase " I just take one came at a time" is trotted out ad nauseumin in a broader sense it is a good way to get to where you want to be but to be absolutely frank what is the point if you don't enjoy the journey. I get the impression she has some fantastic opportunities and will enjoy every minute!

Huge congtrats to Emily for an outstanding perfomance smile

Still, generally, don't think this is the way ahead!

Court 3's gizmo seems to be on the blink so we don;t know if the guys' match has finished (or even started) and if Em App is now playing. However, that boded well yesterday when she won, with the gizmo down. So maybe she's in the process of doing the same thing as we 'speak'.....

Add: Wonder if they read this forum ????? after 2.5 hours down, and then posting this, the court 3 thingy suddenly bursts into life, 5 minutes later.

And, no, the guys are in a third set and Em is not on court yet.
