Katie B was a big favourite with the bookies surprisingly. Emily A is a big underdog and Maia was also a big favourite

Emily lost - good win for Katie B

2 in QF is better than expected. I expect at least 1 to make it to semi finals

The winner of Maia and Manisha will play Fiona Gervais, who is a 'standard' sort of French player, a bit better than her ranking because she didn't play much pro-tennis last year (doing other stuff, I believe, not because she was injured, although I might be wrong) - but then picked it up again in autumn, won a 10k and was thrilled as her team won the French Elite Tennis team championships (in December).

She's definitely very playable, but not quite as 'easy' as her ranking would indicate.

Very competitive first set between Maia and Manisha, Maia always a nose ahead, and she took it, 6-3

When KatieB got injured, she was at a CH ranking of 340, and rising, with nothing to defend for a couple of months. Top seed this week was on a current ranking of 381; last remaining seed at 404.

A good tribute to the usefulness of the British Tour events too - which Katie B played (not all that successfully in terms of absolute results but obviously very successfully in terms of getting herself match-ready for the ITFs).

Maia won in straight sets. With both the seeds in her half of the draw in trouble, the draw is really opening out.
