Both girls are serving huge and not too much between then apart from a sloppy service game from Gibbs with a gift of a DF to give Naomi the set.

If Naomi continues to serve this well and big, she'll win.

Barely a point going against serve right now - 6-4 6-5*

Naomi's serve continued to be impregnable in the TB to get a 6-4 7-6 win. Only one break in the match - a stereotypical Naomi win, though in reality she doesn't get that many victories like today that are so reliant on holding serve.

Nice to get the win. The standard of returning of 2nd serves was shocking by both players otherwise we might have seen more breaks or at least bps. Naomi won 12 points with unreturned 2nd serves. Nicole 8.

In the 2nd set Nicole won 11 second serve points in a row.

Impressed by Naomi's aggressive play, though at times the execution wasn't perfect.

Very efficient, probably masks how good a win it was. Gibbs is a decent player - the most decorated NCAA Div I player of all time.
Apart from the obvious serving power and variety, I thought Naomi's groundstrokes were noticeably solid today, and the length in most of the second set was very consistently good and deep, perhaps even improving right at the business end.

Maybe there's something in this 'altitude training' up Hawaiian volcanoes?

Boom Boom Broady.

Keep serving like that and she will cause everyone problems. Returns need some work and Naomi is definitely shying away from the forehand, but on the whole looking very promising.

Jaksic next and Naomi beat her in straight sets in November at Carlsbad 125

Great win for Broads! Does she have any points to defend this week?
