Fantastic aggression throughout from Naomi; execution was generally impressive though a few spells in which she made a lot of errors. First serve went missing in the tiebreak, only managed 1/8. 2nd serve return poor in that 2nd set. Volleys, drive volleys and smashes were excellent. Drop shots were interesting but too often Madison put away backhand passes. First serve percentage still on the low side for me.
For a generally solid, safe player, Brengle also had spells of careless errors, some of which came at key moments.
Good tough match play and mental fortitude.
Naomi will play the winner of the match now on court, Shelby Rogers & Hibi Mayo, both of whom looked absolutely dreadful in the last round right up until the point when, inexplicably, they had both won!
Really excellent win after losing the tiebreak and going a break down in the 3rd.
I was watching the final set a few minutes delayed and the tension of Naomi serving for the match was slightly broken when the stream jumped to the next match.
Should be very close to having enough points for the french open main draw now.
She really seems to have a game plan when she plays, at the moment: it's great to see.
I didn't see today's match but I remember thinking exactly the same thing two days ago. She seems really clear on how to maximise her strengths and how to go about beating her opponents.

Yes, she now has 620 ranking points in running ( and she's running pretty fast these days! ) with a maximum of a net whole 3 points to drop before the French Open list comes out. So she's already to a minimum 617 points for then.
I so did not see all this coming just about six months ago and it's all the more pleasing for being so unexpected.
Still has a big doubles match coming up. As her partner is currently on court, they will at least both be familiar with the conditions.
Again served 18 aces, as she did against Gibbs a couple of days ago. If these two matches were in WTA tournaments, she would now have 4 entries on the WTA's "Fun Facts" top 10 list of most aces in a match, 2016, at positions 3,4,5 and 9; and she'd be 20 clear at the top of the 'most aces this year' chart, with 74, leaving Serena and Shazza sharing second place on 54 apiece.
Now at around 106 in the rankings; reaching the final here would take her into Grand Slam DAs, @WR101, having grabbed herself her second-best-ever rankings haul (85 points); winning the final would take her to around WR96, with her best ever ranking points for a week(140).
In the race, she's now at WR45, would move to 35 as RU, and up to 22 if she wins the title.
In the doubles, she moves ahead of Heather as GB4 if she wins later, a new CH of around 124, for making the semis; RU would be her 3rd-best ever points from a week, new CH117ish; the title would be the biggest of her career, best ever weekly points total; and new CH of around 111ish.
