What have I been telling you. I was mocked for saying this was 'new Evo' but I really think his long spell out forced him to consider life without Tennis and his focus since then has been exceptional. So exciting to see.
Sure there'll still be ups and downs, but he is showing a level of consistency we've never seen before.
I don't think you were really mocked, but when you used the phrase "new Dan" last year there were just a few of us a bit wary that we'd thought that in the past. Think we'd all agree that this is great to see just now and long may it continue

Kyle looking a bit flat. Not hitting with the normal power on the forehand. Tighter second set.
Agree. Only saw the 2nd set so can't comment in the first. Always had too much for McGee, so perhaps that was the reason. There didn't seem to be much intensity (one of Beechy's buzzwords when he was coaching Kyle) but if he can win comfortably playing that way. then he still has some gears to move up through when he needs them, hopefully.
Next round could be very different. JPS and Zemjla into a decider. Mike C mentioned that Zemjla hit 31 aces in his first round match. If he gets through, he is going to provide a real challenge on these fast courts.
Evo I do think has got it, ie his time is now, he has the skill set to be successful and has experienced it, last seasons injury perhaps made him reevaluate her fragile a successful tennis career is. I really enjoy watching him play similarly Kyle.
I just hope they both stay injury free, establish themselves in the top 100 and get a good crack at getting as close to top 50 as possible.
I'm back from work, I've just watched the recording Dan's match, fast forwarding between points and games. It's a shame you can't do that when you watch live! I thought Dan played a really, really good match. The game he played at 3-2 to break serve in the first set was absolutely top drawer. I don't think he faced a bp until the last game of the match. BF made some unforced errors but Dan almost none at all. Everyone who watched will agree it was a comfortable victory. If Dan can maintain this level, he could be top 100 quite quickly, especially if he plays in the States in March and rests during the dirt season.
It is a pleasure to watch Dan playing at this level!
Perhaps Topema was just the only one brave enough to face the ridicule. Prusner was castigated for suggesting the prion existed, William Harvey castigated and persecuted by the church for suggesting blood circulated.
I am out and prepared to face the mockers and haters.
Well, the predictions on Sim's site for last year shows who was a believer and who wasn't
It was pretty split.
My view was (and is) rather cynical - I don't really go for the 'old' or 'new' Dan. I've always said that I think it's dictated by the bank account. When Dan's dad lay the law down and said 'earn some money or get a proper job', a couple of years ago, he really pulled his finger out. And did. And then promptly took his foot off the gas (and then later got injured). I think he then did have a moment for reflection, and saw that, at his age and with his talent, his best way to get the funds coming in again was to play tennis, and play it well. (Maybe Georgina also spoke sense to him). Which is why I was in the chunk that thought he'd get his act together last year - injuries aside, it was self interest. And that's a very good reason. (Mind you, I'll be more concerned if the account gets back to a healthy state, coz Dan might go AWOL again).

Topema I stand resolutely by your side.
"We have a new Dan! " ..... And er keep it up
Great to have you on board, brother! "Now I'm a believer!"

Well as someone who is an unapologetic Evo fan boy I don't think anyone can be blamed for being sceptical about claims of a "new Evo". As a former President of the United States might have said 'fool me once shame on you, fool we twice shame on me, fool me 6 times then I really am an idiot'.

True. It's up to Dan himself to keep proving it, I guess - after all, he has far more invested in making a go of his career than anyone. I've just been really impressed with the way he's playing at the moment. There was a point in the 1st set v Frat where he had the American running back and forth across the court and was hardly even having to move himself - the epitome of the phrase 'dictating the play' and a joy to watch.

Evo first up, not before 11.30am local and Kyle 3rd up. Dallas is 6hrs behind, so 5.30 UK time
Actually, I think you may have that the wrong way round. The ATP oop states Kyle is on first and Dan is 3rd match. Good luck guys, whatever the order of play!
