Amazingly, just woke up for the last few points . Kyle had a first match point on Smyczek's serve but had to serve it out. Bit nervy, missing a few 1st serves but got it done . Big crowd watching , tomorrow should be fun
Fantastic stuff from both Brits. Now, do I set my alarm for 3am or do I chicken out, look up the result in the morning and then watch the rerun later. Decisions, decisions.
Just watched the rerun on Kyle's match and he was in top shape. 74% 1st serve percentage and his forehand was on fire.
And while we sit and drool over the efforts of Evo and Kyle this week, let's give a quick shout out to Mark Hilton who is over there coaching the pair of them this week. He has a 100% record so far with his two proteges in Dallas. He will of course lose that 100% record tonight, but I doubt he is too bothered about that.
Just watched some of both matches on livestream.com/atp before checking results. So good!! Well done to both.
Loved that big forehand from Kyle to take the first set - got some good cheers there. Also loved Dan's plea of 'Correction ball was good?' to the umpire as he just missed on break point at 2-0 final set. There is so much to love about watching Dan.
I reckon that DC in his home town is a massive motivation for him and he was a bit more animated about that match given it was aagainst a guy who plays for Japan for a chance to have a kind of play-off with Kyle.
If Dan wins tonight he's got to be favourite for second spot surely having had wins against the top two Japanese players that both standout for different reasons (i.e. Beating Kei at US Open in straight sets and that amazing comeback from 0-5 and match points against Taro Daniel last year in Vancouver). Having said all that how these two match up against each other doesn't necessarily have much bearing on how they'd match up against the Japanese.
