The Winter Cup season starts with qualifying for the under 12s this weekend. They have made a strong start, beating Slovenia 3-0, thanks to straight sets wins for Louis Davey and Samuel Reeve, who then combined for the doubles. They need to beat the Czech Republic to reach the finals.
Currently it stands Czech Republic 1 GBR 1 after two one-sided matches involving bakery products - Louis winning his, but Samuel losing to an unlikely sounding Czech by the name of Matthew William Donald
This weekend sees qualifying for the under 14s and under 16s with mixed fortunes on day 1. The under 14s copped a tough draw against France and were well beaten - Barney FitzPatrick and Benjamin Heynold losing comprehensively before Benjamin teamed up with Arthur Fery to win the doubles.
The under 16s had a good 3-0 win over Romania with Aidan McHugh edging a tight 3 setter before Jake Hersey won in straights and partnered Aidan to doubles success. They need to beat Turkey tomorrow to qualify for the finals
The under 16s squeak through after a 2-1 win over Turkey. Aidan won 6-2 6-1 but Jake lost 6-1 1-6 6-1 before the two combined to take the doubles 10-5 in the match tiebreak. They play Bulgaria for seeding rights
The under 16s finished their qualifying campaign strongly, with both Ewen Lumsden and Aidan claiming straight sets wins to defeat Bulgaria 2-0. The under 14s won both their consolation matches
