PS any idea why Marcus is out there? There are only three Brits in main draw - Naomi, Kyle and Darren Walsh
Exactly what I was wondering.
Not that he'd have to coach a Brit, of course, but without any obvious ties to other countries, and without any real experience at coaching, it's not obvious where other coaching jobs would come from.
Ooft, very tight on her three (individual) set points. Big serve to save break point (she's wondering where that was on set point!), a big winner to save a second, double fault on set point for a second time, and finally after a very poor quality tight rally from both ends in a Linette error she gets there!
Long game serving for the set...misses a couple of set points, goes down break point, hits a big first serve and says "do that before"...goes down another break point and hits the sideline for a forehand winner...gets another set point but double faults and says "your taking the p*** now Naomi" but then finally converts on her 5th set point but shakes her head and slaps her wrist like she lost the game.
Early break from Naomi as Linette's drop shot then lob combination goes wrong. Several good shots from Naomi earlier in that game, with Linette twice finding big first serves to save bps before rather giving away the break.

First set was wretched from Naomi, especially her serve and her forehand. 2nd set much better with lots of unreturned first serves and a few super ground-strokes. After the first set Linette started making far more errors. The third set was all Linette really; tons of errors and plenty of big shots to save bps. Naomi played ok in the final set but was guilty of a few horror shots herself but largely just let Linette implode. By the third set, Naomi's forehand errors were a thing of the past.
One thing that surprises me, is that when Naomi is playing terribly, missing forehand after forehand, she doesn't practice the shot she was trying to hit, in between the points, in order to let her body know what it was meant to do, so it can get it right next time. I've noticed lots of other professionals do this.
