Thanks Peter for the commentary. good to read this morning. I'm exited for Jo, she certainly does seem to have found her consistency again, I was worried after last week.
If Johanna wins, I think she will be the first British lady to make R16 or better in Singles at consecutive GS since Jo Durie reached the QF of AO 1983 and followed it up with a SF showing at Roland Garros, in 1983, 33 years ago - a third of a century! * Anne Hobbs made R16 twice in 1987, at AO & USO; so not consecutively * Laura Robson had chances to do this, she made R16 then R32 in consecutive GS twice in 2012-13 (USO'12-AO'13, Wimbledon'13-USO'13)
Edit: typo.

Watched JO's match last night then fell asleep on the sofa before posting on here!
Dominant almost right through, bit nervy when trying to close the match out but to be honest I never felt like she was going to let it go.
Fantastic to see Jo performing so solidly and consistently at this level and following up a fantastic round one win in such an impressive way. The only way is up for this lass right now

Almost perfect stats there - you've just been thrown by the sneakiest 'trick' in the grand slam book - the fact that the Australian Open was held in December until 1985 (that's why there was no AO in 1986 - it went from Dec 1985 to Jan 1987), so Jo did indeed make consecutive slam R16s in 1983, but it was the US Open SF followed by the Aus Open QF rather than the AO followed by RG.
In fact, it has been very rare for British women to make the last 16 at a slam at all in the last 30 years or so. Of the year-end GB no. 1s in the period after 1983 (and it is safe to assume that this group will include all players who made a slam last 16 over this period):
Jo Durie made the last 16 (including one more QF) five times after 1983
Anne Hobbs made the last 16 four times after 1983 (six times in total)
Laura has done it twice, as you mentioned
Sam Smith managed it just once (Wimbledon 1998)
Annabel Croft (despite her career high of 21) never made the last 16 of a slam and nor did Sara Gomer, Monique Javer, Clare Wood, Louise Latimer, Julie Pullin, Anne Keothavong, Elena Baltacha or Katie O'Brien, while Heather Watson hasn't (yet) - indeed, some of the players in that list never even made the last 32 of a slam.

Thank you for clarifying; my caution was well exercised. I'd forgotten all about that. I was pleased enough that I remembered to account consideration for the 2 AO's in 1977 (I started with Virginia).
This is why steven is the S.T.E.V.E.N. that we all know and treasure, and I, 'shall study deserving'.

I'd completely forgotten that it had switched the other way in the previous decade, so I think that makes us even
