 No need to be sorry.

I think the rest of us just want a change. I respect Serena is just amazing.

Well, we can't always get our way

But it's brilliant for German tennis - and Serena's volleys - oh Lordy...... she'll relive that one....

Well done Angie !

Angie is indeed now WR 2 in spite of the announcer seeming to slightly doubt himself

Just... wow!
I've said before Kerber's my favourite non-Brit player; in my mind, all her matches are like that

A magnificent advert for the WTA tonight. From both players some incredible tennis, drama, skill, athleticism and guts. Absolutely compelling.
Looking on social media it's telling how many of Serena's fans are just saying something equivalent to, "sad, but I have to give it to Kerber, she deserved every bit of that'. The spectacle and performance overcoming EVEN the deeply entrenched fan favouritism on the WTA.

Serena's time for history will still surely come, and I hope it does - the final numbers in the history books should leave no doubt that she's the greatest player we've ever seen (I'd say personally, by a very wide margin).
For Angie though, constantly written off as a 'nice player, or 'good runner' and so on, not only did she deserve this, she earned it in the sternest acid test of all, beating an on form Serena in a GS final. Only the fourth player to defeat Serena in a GS final, and the first to defeat her at any stage in Australia beyond the semi!

Well done Angie. Well done

The standard in sets 2&3 was very high. Serena was awful in set 1.

Really pleased to see someone different winning.

A lot of players have lost their match against Serena before the match has even started. Not Angie

Is this the start of the end of Serena.... When I say end, I mean back to the levels of everyone else...

I am a huge Serena fan (as I think all womens tennis fans should be, for her achievements if nothing else) but totally agree with the sentiment that Kerber deserved that, she was so solid and consistently aggressive.

Great speeches from both too - a remarkable match!

I'm warming even more to Serena. Can you imagine Fed being so generous? To be fair to Serena, she has always been pretty gracious. I think she gets alot of us on back because she's so good.

Aaah, bless you Angie. You can tell this means so much to her.

Here's to more rivalry in the women's game.

Such a relief for a good quality, tense women's final - and a really deserving winner.

And of course, we now know Jo lost to the future champion ;). Not shabby losing to a Grand Slam Champion :)

Great to see a new slam champ. Saw most of the 1st and final sets and the difference in quality was astonishing. The final set was great.

Nice to see a great women's final. Haven't had one in a while.

Makes things interesting now.
