it's hard to believe there are two brits playing at the same time on adjacent courts for quarter final places. Now statisticians, when was the last time lol

On day 8 of last year's US Open, JoKo played Kvitová in R4 4th on Ashe (i.e. 1st night match) and Andy played a long 4-setter in R4 against Kevin Anderson 3rd on Armstrong, so they may have overlapped but I can't remember.

I'm sad, I looked

Helpfully, in the Womens thread for last years USO, tony_orient wrote: "Murray and Konta's matches are annoying in sync meaning the changeovers are happening at exactly the same time."
So, they did indeed overlap.

Thanks, I should have thought of checking there!

Given that the last time a British man and woman reached singles QFs at the same slam was 1977, the last time they actually WON slam R4 matches that overlapped must have been at least 39 years ago and probably longer (though maybe not - John Lloyd and Robin Drysdale both made the 1977 AO QFs, so maybe one of them overlapped with Sue Barker), giving the kind of result Jiwan was probably hoping for - and I'm afraid that's beyond us (speaking for myself, at least!)

whaaaaaaat! i love that you guys love tennis as much as you do.

btw keys is struggling with injury, I don't know if she will complete the match. Def going down hill. The world has fallen in love with Zhang but Jo will be preferring this

trainer on again.....Keys looks in bad shape....poor thing. I reckon she is going to smash everything from this point and crawl over the line.  Either way an unfit Keys in the quarters?

So Jo will now face Zhang in the quarter finals. Not wanting to diminish Zhang's achievements, but surely this is Jo's to lose.....

sorry if I hijacked this thread with this match, just though it might be insightful for Jo's followers in the next round. Madison would have strolled through this in straight sets if she was fit. Madison was crying for the last few games, very sad.

If Jo can resume her sports psychology...she will be in the semis. zhang isnt emotionally tough enough right now
