In fairness, Berdych just had a bit too much for Kyle today. That is to be expected from the experienced World Nº 6 of course, who looked in particularly good form. But I thought Kyle acquitted himself really well and even though the result went against him, he did not look out of place on the big stage. I am sure he will learn a lot, not just from today, but from the week as a whole. Having seen what I saw today, I have even more confidence that Kyle is in for a very good season.
All in all, it has been a fantastic week and Kyle has earned himself a day off for his 21st birthday tomorrow.
There's a reason why Mr Berdych is one of the few non-big-five players to make a slam final in the last decade. The scoreline is respectable, and that's a good beginning. Well done on a good week.
I managed to watch the match delayed on Eurosport Player, so am only now getting on here: I thought Kyle stood up very well to a Berdych who was himself playing very well. Considering Kyle had to come through qualifying, he did amazingly well and the future looks bright.
I thought Kyle did a little more than expected, quality ground strokes often going blow for blow in 10 shot plus rallies, really hung in there despite as expected clearly outclassed, pushed Berdych on his serve and had a number of opportunities to break serve.
Mentally I thought he was pretty strong and not over awed. He got caught at the beginning of the second which was a shame. A really nice start to the year and realistically looks like he should be able to maintain his rank and progress at the main tour level.
The ground strokes had me purring can't wait to see him get back on the dirt, there I think he will be a real threat to most of the tour, should be fun!!!
