In reference to the last point ABB, I think it is just the logistics of getting results in from multiple tournaments all over the world. It is the same with the ITF tournaments in the mens. To me, this argument had some merit up until the last few years but with the technology you have now, it would make sense to streamline the adding of points for all levels of tournaments.

If all tournaments have live scores available on the internet, then surely all the results can be logged before the Monday update of the rankings.

Thanks Bob, that makes sense.
I agree fully that, now everything is electronic for scoring purposes and dissemination to the live scores services anyway, then they really should do away with the weeks delay, and just add all points, from all levels of tournaments, for the next weeks rankings.
It seems a little anachronistic now - things have moved on so quickly!

Thanks for the feedback.

How to present the players on the Players pages was a subject I wrestled with for a long time. I won't be changing them for now, but I'll see what the general reaction is once we're properly up and running, and I may then make changes. I appreciate that while it does state clearly at the top of the WTA lists that players born in '98 and later are on the Girls list, it does mean Swan, Taylor and Appleton are absent.

It's tricky when you have so many different ways of ranking people.

Hi Brad, had any further thoughts on this ?

I personally still think it would be much better to have all ranked players on the ATP and WTA Player lists including the juniors.

As has been said, and I still think stands, the ATP & WTA lists I think will be of interest to many folk to see the write ups and pics of our ranked players in order, and I think it's more natural to include all and probably expected even though it is pointed out that players born in 1998 or later are in the boys and girls lists.

The ATP and WTA lists are very welcome and well set out, but to me most certainly do lack such as Katie Swan in position and with a full profile rather than the more basic details from the girls section.

I would have such players as Katie, Gabi and Maia on both the WTA list and girls but most certainly on the WTA list.

Site looking good in general, well done !

 Yep.

Just moving house (well, country) right now so not had the time to even tackle the updates of the players pages since January. Once I'm settled into my new job, I'm hoping to find the time to update the players pages with some of the feedback that has been given, and slightly update some of the bios with the action so far this year.

Sadly, not many tennis tournaments in Cyprus...

Hi Brad,

Just wondering if all's OK....

Your website was very dynamic, with constant updates, but now hasn't been updated since late June.

It must have been a huge time commitment and can imagine that life suddenly got in the way - hope there's nothing else behind the sudden 'dormant' phase.

I was having discussions with Brad a couple of months ago, about turning the content into a regular weekly email, including world tennis news, british tennis news and local tournament info. I was going to use my database of previous and forthcoming competition entrants as the foundation of the mailing list. However the LTA said data protection states you can use the emails for future competitions but to use it for british and other tennis news would be a grey area, so I opted against doing it. I still love the idea, if it took off you could charge for some related advertising too. I just thought it would be cool to get a regular tennis email, updating you on both world and british news.

I fear that the LTA do not understand the remit of the Data Protection Act. (Like many others, unfortunately).

As long as the address list is hidden (using BCC, for instance), and people have the option to opt out (un-suscribe), there is no breach of the data protection act (in my view) in having a mailing list. If you wanted to be doubly sure, you could check with the email list first to see if they wished to receive the emails. Data protection (as far as email addresses are concerned) basically means that you must take all reasonable measures to ensure the data you've got, like people's email addresses, are not divulged to third parties unless the people have given you permission to do so. So as long as the list is hidden you're fine. There is no difference whether it's for future tournaments or general news as far as the Data Protection act is concerned, the data is/are the same and your duties to 'protect' it are the same.
