RE: Britennis and The Britennis Podcast

Hmm. I'll take a look at that.

I wonder whether you want something to make bigger news stand out. For instance, the Broady win is already being pushed off your front page by the lesser news that Salisbury and Corrie are in the same quarter. Perhaps some kind of sticky that keeps the big story of the day on top of the page, while the breaking news scrolls through below.

Thanks Etienne. I've been thinking about that, but haven't properly been able to take a look at it. It might be a case of having a static front page which I then manually edit myself, because at the moment it's just a rolling post of the most recent stories. I'll take a look, thanks.

Are the adverts okay in general? I've tried to edit them as much as possible to make them unobtrusive, any feedback on these would be most welcome, as if I have to have ads on the site I'd rather they be as out-of-the-way as possible.

Also, I've re-jigged the home page slightly. Hope it looks a little better now.

Massively better. Looks very good now - and I assume that when you get more "Main Headlines" then a third one will appear in the blank space under the Konta and Edmund ones.

Just pointing out a small error - in the BT thread you state Emily Arbuthnot has just won a place at Harvard - it should be Stanford.

Love the new front page layout.

Hi Brad
I think this site is extremely good and has great potential. People love lists as it gives us a great picture of how things are. I have an idea for your site which could give it much bigger profile.
Many years ago now (when such sites were costly to run) I ran site for the European club team community. Off the back of this Tennis Europe wanted to start a hard copy magazine which had information about European team tennis and listed all the teams and leagues by country. Also, however they wanted to list all the money tournaments by country. I have searched the internet and can not find a site that has this information in one place.
The LTA should be doing this but you can see how uncomfortable the comparison would be. Parents and players really want this information to help them fill in the gaps of what a professional pathway involves.
I have some experience with this so let me know if you need help.

If it's any use, and you haven't got it, here is the site that lists all the money tournaments in France:

www.ei.applipub-fft.fr/eipublic/competitionRecherche.do

The top box is for tournament (stand-alone tournament, open to anyone) and championship (county championships, close entry, etc)

It lists all, but you can use the age category (bottom right) to get rid of juniors and veterans, if you want.

It's done by league, which is effectively by region.

Nearly all have cash prize money (apart from the juniors which will have gift vouchers or whatever).

As you can see, there are a lot !

Hi Otto. Interesting idea. Fancy sending me an email at: britennisblog@gmail.com and we can spitball? Thanks for the starter info, CD.

Am sure you have enough going on with the site at the moment not to need any more suggestions for extra, but when you feel the need for more expansion how about a weekly round up of our dubs players?  I know not everyone follow dubs, but I can't be the only one with quite an interest in that department.

Also, just a comment about junior draws/ranking points in your reports.  Several times in your write-ups you hope that the young Brits get drawn in separate sections.  In fact that's almost guaranteed as junior draws are not entirely random.  As far as seedings allow, players from any given country have to be kept apart until the latest possible round.  So, for example, if 5 girls from the UK entered a 32 player tournament in Brazil and one was seeded, 3 of the others would have to be placed in different quarters to the seeded one and the other such that she did not meet any of them until the 2nd round.  This is the case for both ITF and tennis Europe.

When you state the number of points a young player has gained for a junior tournament, are you taking into account points from doubles?  ITF and tennis Europe rankings are calculated using a combination of singles and dubs points as it is a 'combined ranking'.

May I echo The Optimist on doubles? Stircrazy and Wolf do a fine job of keeping us apprised of scores and tournaments, for which I am always hugely grateful, but it would be lovely to have more news stories on our doubles players as well.
