RE: Fed Cup 2016 - Europe/Africa Group 1

Not to put too fine a point on it, the group stage is as good as it gets. Hoping the team can use the gift well!

Neither group opponent has a top 200 player, so a great draw. No excuse for not getting to the final, where the opposition will be tougher.

How did we get such a good draw?

Ukraine got a nice draw as well, in theory we should be fresh and well prepared for the final, which after a typically gruelling week could be telling on the Saturday.

Hev and Jo after an Olympics spot. Looks like they will be teaming up whenever possible, including in Melbourne.

Just to confirm that the winners of GB's group will play either Hungary, Belgium, Bulgaria or Latvia

The winners of that go into a WG2 playoff against losers of Australia v Slovakia, Canada v Belarus, USA v Poland and Spain v Serbia

In theory, as well as WG2 losers, they could play one of the other 'promoted' teams' in the WG2 play-offs as happened in 2012 when GB and Sweden ( the two Europe / Africa qualifiers ) played each other.

I believe it's the 4 top ranked teams seeded to play one of the four others from the rankings after the relevant WG2 and qualifying matches .

That group is a joke :D If we don't get to the final at least, then there's something seriously up. As for the final though, Belgium will be really tough - pretty much a 50-50 shot against them I would say, but Konta needs to find her late 2015 form NOW...

I fear that easy group might be a curse in disguise, giving the girls a lack of opportunity to play really great opponents and get their competitive juices flowing.

I've just come across this tweet from Judy 6(!) days ago confirming Naomi wasn't available - https://twitter.com/judmoo/status/685902539246587908

With thanks to Vandenburg of all people for asking the question.

Hadn't realised how soon this was until now - just a week away. I just wish our top player was coming into it in better form...
