Bambo took the first set 6-4 Jonny is a break up in the first set
Bambo looks like he has a really tough route if he hopes to do as well as last week. Uchida whom he plays today was seeded last week, then Moraing, who got to the final at Bath followed by the fourth seed and then the top junior Hong, whom he beat in 3 last week.
Jonny on the other hand, if he wins today will play a very average Qatarian who beat Sam Barry after retirement and has no seeds left in his quarter

Yes, better in a sense to start off with a win over a good player, given what is, as noted, a nasty draw. Sorry on Mr Ward's behalf - but losing to someone whom the Davis Cup has nominated as a potential future star (www.daviscup.com/en/news/220481.aspx together with Mr Edmund, Mr Garin, Mr Ruud, Mr Ly and the Ymers) isn't the same as just losing to an ordinary lower-ranked player, if that's any consolation.
Good win for Luke that, Uchida was very highly ranked as a junior and is a year older than Luke. Their paths seem to have been relatively similar since going on to the senior tour it would seem.
Scott beat the fella Murray double-bagled in his comeback match after surgery.
Good stuff by Luke, a second straightforward looking win against a higher ranked player suggesting that Luke is continuing to produce a higher level on the match court.
QF: Seong Chan Hong (KOR) WR 930 vs Jonny O'Mara WR 886
QF: Jonathan Mridha (SWE) WR 892 (CH = 844 in May) vs Luke Bambridge WR 682
Mridha has just beaten Scholtz, the fourth seed, in two hours & 34 minutes. I hope he's not too worn out for his doubles match with Robbie agin those pesky Belgians.
