I didn't realise Finn had only just turned 16. A doubles final win would put him well inside the top 200 and close to 150 when the 97's drop off in January.

Georgie could jump down to around 120 if she can do the double and closing in top 100 when the 97's drop out. I'm surprised Georgie hasn't been higher in the rankings, but she is clearly an identified talent by the LTA

Yes, Finn is our top 1999 (and late 1999 at that), although Jack Molloy is only a couple of points behind (born July 1999)

Never seen Jack but Finn is quite a strong-looking lad - not that tall but no skinny, weedy sort - athletic - I saw him play a wonderful match at the Bank of England ground.

Not sure quite why you'd have thought Georgie would have been higher (although why not) - Georgie is a gifted ball-player, in my view, some lovely skills, but she's small and slight and - although I like watching her play and her style - I can't see her ever being in the same bracket at Jodie, for instance, who is exactly the same age (although Jodie has all the makings of a tip-top player - I remember you were impressed by her too - so maybe that's unfair to Georgie - NB do hope Jodie's op has gone well).

NB Based on nothing much, I get the feeling that Georgie's dad is very switched on when it comes to his daughter's tennis.

Good day for Georgina Axon another doubles title and a singles win that puts her into the final.

Mixed day for Finn Bass another doubles title but a loss in singles. He seems to be struggling, he hasn't had a singles win over a player ranked higher than 300 since beating Miomir Kecmanovic in July. His ranking next year will guarantee him a main draw position in G1 and G2 tournaments, but if his level doesn't improve he'll find it tough.... Work to be done I think.

I wouldn't worry about Finn.

I don't know if it is anyway connected but after his excellent run in early simmer, Finn then retired from a match in July. And then seemed to lose in the first round of the next batch of tournaments (which were also all high-grade ones)

Also, the same criticism could sort of be said for Georgie.

She has the ranking to make decent level tournaments. And yet is choosing to play G4s (last week), where she basically has to win the thing to make any real net improvement in her ranking. Partly because she also lost quite early on in the Grade 2s (and 3s) that she played in Hungary etc. a few months ago. (although see below).

And Georgie is - effectively - 18/24 months ahead of Finn.

(i.e. I think that as a very rough and ready rule of thumb girls are 12-24 months ahead of boys in their tennis junior-to-adult development so a 1999/late 98 boy and a 2000/early 2001 born girl ranked the same are about the same calibre. Finn is 6 months younger than Georgie so is about 2 years behind her in ranking terms, in my view).

NB I'm not at all saying that Georgie is doing the wrong thing. I think points chasing is not the way to go. There are many good reasons to play lower ranked tournaments. And obviously the G4 was part of a the tour that includes the G3 this week.

I like both players, both play a lot, seemingly have a lot of LTA support, but I'd say Finn is in a better place.

PS Fingers crossed that Georgie has done it for the second week running re Jain (who is born June 2001, by the way).
