Week 48 - USA F35 ($15,000) Tallahassee, FL, USA (Hard - indoor)

Not at all a bad loss. Ryan Shane won the US university championships (beat Noah Rubin) last year and is still at university, hence very underranked. It was a rotten draw.

The Canadian is currently ranked N° 874, while the Dutchman is unranked, but has a CH of 1476 from November last year.

At a guess, the Canadian is in the area to play the Orange Bowl next week. If I'm not mistaken, he's the youngster who won the US Open doubles with Felix Auger Aliassime. And this year's Junior Davis Cup.

Ryan Shane beat Laaksonen (1) in the next round. Not that bad a defeat!

Yes cry

And he then went on to win the whole she-bang.

So I guess, if you're going to lose in R1, at least it's best to lose to the eventual winner.

The college tennis forum say he's a huge ball-striker and absolutely wonderful - when on form.

Hmmm. Might want to cultivate that one a bit, CD. Nguyen won, though in three sets. But I'd agree with the general principle: if you're going to lose, losing to a finalist at least feels better than losing to someone who goes out in the next round.
