RE: Week 47 - WTA $125K Series - Carlsbad, CA, USA - Hard

As soon as she lost serve at 4-0 it seemed very unlikely she would win, had a break point in the next game which Crawford saved and that was that.

Could easily have won all 3 sets but her serve just totally deserted her when ahead in sets 2 and 3 and in the tiebreak. When your serve is your best shot you need it in the key moments and the last few weeks she just hasn't had it.

A shame that such a brilliant year has ended in such a disappointing way but I'm sure if you had offered her a ranking of 120 ish with nothing to defend for the first few months next year she would have taken it in January.

Hopefully she can regain her confidence, which seems to have taken a hit post Albuquerque, for next year.

Naomi & Nicole back out again for their doubles ( err it's only Wednesday and it's a SF so bit strange, plus the other SF is not on the schedule )

Anyway not started ideally, 1-2*

Jeezo same thing every week. Looks like her current ranking might be causing a bit of a mental block. All her losses have been from massive winning positions.

Indeed, and I feel this business of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory needs to be nipped in the bud ASAP before it becomes too much of a problem.

I'm still not sure why this match was being played today at all, following Naomi's and Nicole vs Cepede Royg ( the previous match on this court ) singles matches, neither of which were scheduled first up.

Anyway I doubt Naomi was in much of a mood for it and they were skelped

SF: Naomi Broady & Nicole Gibbs (USA) CR 336 (140+196) lost to (ALT) Gabriela Ce & Veronica Cepede Royg (BRA/PAR) CR426 (218+208) 6-2 6-0

Don't think it would have been a "mood" thing - Ms Broady sounds as if she's a professional, and she would know that however you feel you can't let down a doubles partner. But she might well have been exhausted (or indeed unwell) - as you say, Indiana, it's unfortunate scheduling, particularly as seemingly unnecessary. Who plays a SF on a Wednesday?

I think the answer to that is: Americans, when the Thursday is Thanksgiving, which it is, today!

The opposite of a grand finale to the season for Naomi; which is a shame after August to October was such a leap forward for her it would have been good to have finished the year on a high. Here's hoping she can start 2016 back at her best :)

It felt like that to me even before this most recent loss. Wasn't following the match but from the stats it looks like she barely landed a first serve as her lead disappeared in the final set.
