After that little injury she had in May/June (that stopped her playing some of the big GB pre-Wimbly events), and having ditched juniors, she has really moved up a level.
It was never in doubt, always going to happen, but it's good to see how easily she made the move - just one or two Sharm events to find her feet, and then it all seemed to click into place.
NB Freya is one of those players to love not only for her tennis, and she seems like a really nice person, but she comes from a completely non-tennis family.
She tweeted a few months back, gently making fun of her mum, saying she must be the only player who's played tennis seriously for ten years, or whatever, and her mother STILL hasn't got the hang of the scoring system - so much so that she still refers to the break at the end of the first set as 'half time' !
Freya was much improved on Sunday's performance. It was a hitting contest as to who could hit the hardest and most accurately and Freya won hands down. The only thing I will say is there is only one game plan. Outhit the opposition. Very little use of the slice or any other variation, but it's working.
Mark Taylor there again and seems to be travelling with Freya everywhere, so it looks like Freya is fully funded by the LTA
Turati finally beat the other Italian after 4h 10 mins....
As for the doubles, they didn't start until very late and I only saw Emily and Manisha beat Chloe and Lilly in a very scrappy match.
