Thanks for the heads-up, CD. Came in at the start of the second set: quite an interesting match to watch. Don't think I've ever seen Darren Walsh play before - some very nice shots. Mr Smethurst's doubles potential was once again striking. Messrs Willis and Rice didn't play badly, but Messrs Walsh and Smethurst definitely deserved to win. Wonder if those will be more regular doubles teams.
Remembered that in 2013 Mr Smethurst had won the doubles in this tournament with Mr Corrie. Had forgotten whom they beat: Fratangelo and Peliwo, Rice and Thornley, Groth and JP Smith, and Krajicek and Sandgren. Quite a run! Hope there can be a similar one this year.
Dan's a pretty good doubles player ( was a good thing he had going with Ed for a while ) and Darren surely our most under the radar top 200 player. Hopefully they can indeed follow beating Dave & Marcus with a good run.

Yes, though there's a nasty looking 2nd round potential draw for them. While Krajicek/Monroe may not be anomalies to the extent that Benoit Paire was in last week's Challenger, they're a rather difficult pairing for a 50K.
Overall, every time I see Mr Smethurst play, I find myself wondering what life would be like for him if he had a few good, injury-free years and some support.
That defeat for Liam means he is going to have to give up a big chuck of the off season is he wants to try and make it into qualifying for the Aussie Open. Realistically he needs around 30 more points to give himself a chance and around 40 more points to be certain. He is entered into a 15K futures in Texas next week (wc 23/11) followed by a 10K futures in Israel (wc 30/11). The following week (wc 7/12) there is another 10K in Israel (initial entry list is out this Thursday) which would be his last chance to get points on the board for the 21st December which is the rankings that will be used for Aussie Open qualifying. If he were to play all 3 of those tournaments that would give him only 3 weeks off before the first week of the 2016 calender which is far, far from the ideal circumstances.
