Alex W just misses the MD and will be top seed in qualifying. He gets a Bye in QR1. Maybe there will be a late withdrawal (Kyle?) and he will get bumped up.
Edit
Should have added that he will play the winner of Makiguchi (WR 709) and Montero (WR 710) in the 2nd round. The other seed in his section is Orlando Luz (WR 492)

QR2: (q1) Alex Ward WR 332 (CH = 305 in July last year) defeated Jorge Montero (CHI) WR 710 (CH = 685 in September) by 1 & 2
****
FQR: (q1) Alex Ward WR 332 vs (q5) Orlando Luz (BRA) WR 492 (CH = 477 in September)
17yo Luz was junior world no. 1 in May. He hasn't won a junior slam but has won a lot of non-slam Grade A/Grade 1 events on clay in the last couple of years.

Withdrew a few days ago. No injury, Just having played a lot over the last few weeks and wanted to rest before possible DC.
Thanks, probably not enhancing his chances though. I would have though that he needed to have had a good result in this tourney. On the other hand, with Kyle's great run last week, I hope he isn't going to tire himself out.

Not sure Wardy' decision to rest will have any impact. Having been in Buenos Aires last week, he will no doubt have discussed the situation with Leon. If Leon had wanted him to play, I am sure he would have done so.
Having said that, I think Kyle's win last week may taken matters out of Wardy's hands anyway. Time will tell and not long to wait.

I think it will have an impact but only on the basis that had he played and done well it would have boosted his chances.
