US College Signings 2016 (and general college tennis chat)

I don't have access to UTRs, but the striking thing to me on the men's Tennis Recruiting list was Amherst, with the 21st highest ranking class in the country. Amherst is a tiny, very academically strong institution, which has no sports scholarships (as I believe is a requirement for division 3) but which says on its financial aid website that it will meet 100% of need for domestic and international students. I don't know how they define "meet" and "need" ... but I think this is very much an example of the kind of thing that you are mentioning.

Well aware there is a whole industry geared around getting scholarships for young athletes to US universities.  Tennis Smart and Stars and Stripes between them handle more Brits aiming at tennis than other companies which is why they are mentioned rather than others on here.  Also I am aware that they both have a good reputation.  Others may as well but I do not know one way or the other so wouldn't want to post anything that might lead a reader into the arms of a shark (and some of these outfits peddle unrealistic dreams for a high fee - not of course suggesting your own recommendation falls into this category).  Have heard plenty about others planning to go but, as explained in an earlier post, I don't want to accidentally sabotage a younster's scholarship negotiations by jumping the gun so I wait until I have seen it announced somewhere publicly.

Well Optimist I really think you need to be a bit more open minded as I just heard through the grapevine that a child has been left stranded with no further help shown from the recruitier they are with now, now that she wants to transfer .... a recruiter needs to take this beyond being just a business , this is a child's life we are talking about and these players are all someone's children ... I am not saying recruiters get it right 100% but it's how they react and what they then do to help that player, once they realised they got a placement wrong .... Once again I strongly recommend parents to use recruiters you actually can meet face to face

Also have asked around about TSUSA and TBH it doesn't seem well known although someone told me it was a predominantly Polish outfit which had just expanded into this country.  Apologies if I'm wrong but I do wonder if our new poster has a connection with it, the detailed knowledge and glowing testimonials read like an advertisement to me.  Nothing wrong with that if it is the case, families looking to the send their kids to the States probably welcome a new name to look at, but a disclaimer would be nice.

MaryP, it's hardly like The Optimist is to blame for some child's negotiations going awry !

He reports, quite rightly, on what he knows, or feels confident enough to state publicly.

Thus, if he doesn't know X company, then he's right to put a little caveat about X company, in his/her own post.

If you wish to recommend X company, based on personal experience (but not vested interest), then that's really interesting for everyone else.

But The O can't change his mind based purely on your comment.

True but if you going to report then it's only fair to report and investigate other companies too ,  all I am trying to say is that there are other good company about not just the two that O keep mentioning abd it's not right to to start saying things like " this sounds like an advertisement " or other companies are shark , as far as I am concern maybe the companies he support could also be shark , I just don't think it's ok to start using those kind of words before he looks into other companies as well as I could say the same back to him that it seems like he is advertising for the companies he recommended and does he too have any business dealing with them ? But I didn't go down that road as I was only trying to make a point that there are others to look at too but yes if he is going to recommend them then he got to take the good with the bad just as I might have to too if TSUSA end up messing up

For the record:

1.  I only post about things I know about or am interested in.

2.  My interest in college tennis stems from quite a few youngsters I know who have taken that route in recent years.  I also have family in the States so know a bit about their education system anyway and was also based there for a short while.

3.  About a 50:50 split, using Sarah Borwell or finding a placement under their own initiative and one via Stars and Stripes.

4.  They all seem by and large quite happy with their placements and those who used the two agencies were happy with the service they received.  I therefore felt happy to mention the names of those agencies in response to a direct question by another poster.

5.  I am in no way involved in the business of recruitment for college tennis.  I have absolutely no interest in investigating the recruitment agency industry, nor have the time or desire so to do.  My posts about the agencies have been very limited and were a response to a direct question and in no way am I advertising them.  I posted honestly what I found when asking about TSUSA and I'm sorry if it falls short of what you were hoping for.

6.  Rather than picking on my posts for not containing the information they would like to see, I would prefer it if other posters simply posted their own research and information.

7.  Get off my back.

Edit: typos
