GET IN THERE.

On his 9th MP, Dan wins 14-12 in the 3rd set breaker.

Simple straight forward victory there - NOT.

QR2:  (q7) Dan Smethurst WR 398 defeated by Jared Hiltzik (USA) WR 581 by 5-7 7-6(6) 7-6(12)

Dan diced with death rather too much for the good of my blood pressure in that one! Boy, was that close!  Lost count of the number of match points he saved!  disbelief  One ace served to Hiltzik's 22!

I tried crossing my right fingers - didn't work.

So tried the left fingers - no joy.

And then did both fingers - and hey presto !!!

Not yet.  Dan's still being allowed his "suitable rest" after his heroics/exertions in the singles qualies! wink

Clearly Dan wanted to give the spectators a bit of suspense after the other 7 Q seeds all won in straight sets with no tiebreaks going beyond 7-4

I'm sure that Darren is just thrilled by his partner's little warm-up match.

Still I see they've won the first set.

6-4 *1-2

Do you get any ranking points for qualifying for a doubles challenger ?

Bangoura & Seeberger (CR 402) lie in wait in the first round of the main draw if they win that one.
