Re Aussie Open qualifiers, the ranking required for that and the points for that ranking at the cut off time can only be roughly estimated.
If you need to be as high as WR 250 say, which is apparently quite possible, then the current WR 250 has 197 points.
Dan had 180 points going into this week and he has nothing to come off before the 21/12/15 ranking cut-off.
His R1 win takes him to 187, a R2 win would take him to 195, so certainly getting to around the necessary ranking points with still another 8 weeks after this in theory available.
Basically looking good
So with his current schedule for this week and the following 2. 3 wins over that period would do it. I wonder what aim Dan has set himself for year end(if any). I reckon being as close if not in the top 200 would be a reasonable one.
Yes, I imagine like most folk, I now certainly think he should make the Aussie Open cut-off of WR 250 or whatever. Nice to get that basically secured asap, but then be really good if he indeed continues to push his ranking on towards WR 200.
His R1 win takes him to 187, a R2 win would take him to 195 [...]
Indi is talking points here, not rankings. Dan currently has 180 points. Plus 7 for this R1 win. If he wins R2, that will be 15 points taking Dan to 195.
I suppose the real test for Dan will be where he has a few foreign losses in a row and he has to deal with that. The only solution is to keep winning, I think.
Well, the US youngsters are continuing to kick butt at the Challengers out there. Fritz has just won easily, so Dan and Liam should be up next.
And Mmoh is very close to putting out third seed, Harrison (although Ryan, I'm sure, won't roll over and die).
It's an exciting group they've got (4 out of the the top 5 junior boys, as of last week, and all going well/very well in the Challengers they're playing, without faffing with too many ITF events).

The Yanks have been desperate for a new crop of talent to emerge, and it certainly looks like they've got their wish CD. As has been mentioned already (not sure if it was on this thread or the general tennis section) young Taylor Fritz in particular is really making waves at just 17, definitely one to keep an eye on. Exciting years ahead potentially for our US counterparts
