What I think it quite exciting about this Egypt block from Freya is not that she's scored some victories and clocked up some points (that was a given, either now or very soon - she's about our most promising (second most promising?) youngster for adult tennis going forward),
but that she seems to be visibly learning her craft and how to win matches, easily.
After all, that's what 10ks should be about - not so much points and cheques (what cheques?) but an apprenticeship and to learn the trade.
So it's difficult to say, not being able to see them, but there were a lot of close matches earlier on, either going her way or not, but making life hard.
And these past two weeks, suddenly the scores seem to be far more clear and one-sided.
Maybe I've got rose-coloured specs but hope it's right.....
Freya should be about 560 with this weeks pts. Being seeded is a major advantage but she does seem to be winning a few matches that she might have lost 6 months ago. Also, with Mirabelle going well and Katie S and Gabriella playing some ITF, tinted specs might not be needed
Cabaj Awad and Flink are on the opposite side of the draw, which is positive.
If she can get past Morgina she will have Lehnert who she beat last week in the semi finals. Morgina has tried to step up to the next level with little success and her recent record in 10Ks is nothing outstanding, so a decent chance to turn over the second seed.
Yes, very much agree CD. Looking at results and scorelines, Freya's game seems to be moving in a very positive direction. Very good to see
Quite a triumvirate close together in ranking points now, GB numbers 10 to 12.
Laura R : 45
Katie S : 45
Freya : 44
In the short term be good to see Freya get the QF win and move above the other two on Monday week. In the medium to longer term, health and fitness willing, these are three young ladies that will be contesting very much higher ranking spots in the years to come, their current positions being mere ( not hugely relevant ) staging points in their different journeys
