RE: The standard and depth of tennis across the world

Standard and depth are good I think, just not in the UK. Interesting how this subject diversed into talk about Brit players. Tennis needs a lot of money, unless LTA pick someone over some of their contemporaries or bring someone in from abroad. Just why is it that Jo Konta wanted to be British as a teenager? She was already far more exceptional than all of our now current juniors with the exception of Katy Swann. The others all either have lots of money or are creating their parents lots of debt only to become a coach, none are ever likely to get near the top 100. Certainly not the names mentioned above, some younger ones 13/14 just now may come through?

The sensible ones stay in school and go to the USA where their college system will support them. The comment about other sports finding them is harsh and other than at the "super conferences" just incorrect.
Tennis will continue to be a rich persons sport in countries with climates like ours as for large parts of the year you cannot play outside effectively. We are also cut off by the sea so cost of competing in ITF etc is expensive as it needs a very long drive or a flight to all overseas events. So depth is there globally but unlikely to be so in the uk.
