RE: Week 41 - WTA International ($227K) - Linz, Austria - Hard

Massively impressed with that scoreline, Beck is no mug, and surprisingly has a very good record indoors, just recently winning Quebec. Yesterday could have raised a few doubts in Jo's mind, I watched the last game of that match, and I felt Jo eventhough playing consistently wasn't attacking with her groundshots. Hopefully Jo can beat Maddy Brengle, and potentially set up another encounter with Petko.

Just a ps, I do wonder whether Jo knew of an impending LL spot, might explain her performance yesterday.

Jo should beat Brengle - another player who is probably overranked

Nope. Brengle has played very well on multiple occasions this year, and has thoroughly earned that ranking.
But, certainly, Johanna at the top of her recent form has a fair chance to progress further.

Well done Jo!
Just a note, Johanna is WR 47 this week, the WR49 applied to qualies, which were held before the new rankings were posted on Monday.

I'd disagree with that. Maddy has shown very little since April/May time with just a relatively easy US Open draw as the best of her runs. All her big performances were at the start of the year.

Missed this earlier today.

Good to see that Jo is in such good form that even a defeat can't knock her out of a tournament.

I saw Brengle at Wimbledon and she was hopeless, but she must have played well to get where she has in the rankings.

The top seeds await the winners, so a proper test if they were to come through this match.

They win 6-2 ; 6-2 with a 91% first serve percentage in set 2...and they won both points behind their second serve too biggrin

Good job, Girls; GL against Kops-Jones & Spears in the QFs smile

Isn't sport strange sometimes. Konta had a real struggle yesterday against Koukalova ranked outside the top 100 and lost her match. Then today she beats Beck inside the top 50 easily.

I watched the last few games of her match today and Beck did start playing a lot better from 5-1 down. Serving at 5-3 Konta played a great first point and that was important given she had been broken when serving at 5-1.

On a separate point does anyone know whats happened to Laura Robson, she's not played for weeks, is she injured again?

Mike Dickson has just written a piece saying she is struggling with some niggles and will not play again this season. A right wrist injury was mentioned(other wrist)

Thanks for that Paulisi. What a shame yet more injuries.
