RE: Week 40 - Germany F15 ($10,000) - Leimen (Hard)

Now I know why it was such a weird match. Neil's been struggling with his glute (think he's possibly over tired). He went for a ball at 4-2 in the first set and over stretched it again. Hence why he then lost all those games on the trot. Then he said Maden was missing at vital points in the 2nd. By the 3rd set Neil was just struggling and didn't have enough to hold on in the end. He was trying to hit aces to save having to move, but didn't pull it off.

Such a shame for him to get that when his form and draw looked so good!

What a shame. It sounds like a match he would probably have won otherwise.  Hope he recovers quickly.

Neil said he didn't actually play that well today - so was a good result. I'm also hoping he can pick up a chunk of points this week ready for a couple of weeks training.

Thanks for your updates sherbert. How/where are you hearing these things from him?

Guessing she has probably been speaking to Neil directly

That's a pity sherbert. Hope that he is able to recover quickly and is not too discouraged by today. It sounds as if generally he's been playing quite well of late. Good effort to take today as far as he did!

I suspect Neil has won by retirement as scores don't normally fail mid game and on retirements umpires forget to press the button after the injury.

Winner plays Escoffier who won in three sets

 That's what I'd assumed too.......crycrycry

All the best to Neil and hope he is fit and well again soon.

And to sherbert too. It was mentioned how agonising it must be following live scores, but that no doubt better than no ruddy scores / info at all until late on.

That was the impression I got. Is there some kind of Neil-sherbert connection I've not worked out yet?

Possibly...I'm Neil's girlfriend. Just had our usual conversation where I've moaned about the stats and how close it was...and he's told me it's fine and the results will come. I'm not patient enough for this sport!

Even worse when the score flashes up at 4-4 and 15-40 down. Another close bloody 3 setter. 8 in the last 3 months and he's lost 7 of them! and yet again he won more points.

I feel your pain sherbet! (though much less intensely I'm sure! - you must find it so frustrating!) I'm sure he's right and the results will come. I pray he can keep believing through the tests, learn their lessons and come out stronger!

If it is any consolation to him at all, tell him he has still won a new fan in me with his performances.

I would love to see some video of him playing too - can't find much on google.

He will always keep believing, I don't know how he does it and stays so placid about it all. I'm the emotional one! We don't really have any video of him or I would send you some. Next time I watch I can get some if you want? I will tell him, think things like that help to keep him going too, so thank you.

Hopefully he can take plenty of encouragement from things like doing so well against someone who then competed well with a top 30 player in a Davis Cup semifinal match shortly afterwards.
