Very disappointed for them both. Stopped watching after Kyle broken in the second set, expecting Kyle to come back and win but not to be. Kyle progress has been pretty smooth bar the change of coaches up until now and one has to expecting dips. He has one tournaments when he has scrapped through early rounds playing poorly.
As things stand this is a brief period of flat lining at around 100, it took James the best part of his career to get there, in that respect the graph Steven knocked out showed the peaks and troughs of his career. Although we would all love to see Kyle pilling into the top 50, somewhere between 70-90 by the end of the year would again show spectacular progress.
He looked poor yesterday, to me he didn't look like he was carrying any major injuries, niggles I think are part of the game. I just hope he is in a frame of mind where he can use this time in California constructively, there isn't much to see in Sacremento, as you will know if you have seen the "mentalist" just lots of murders, bit like Jersey where the average life expectancy doubled when Bergerac left town.
Up first on Court 7 on Wednesday. Can make rapid get-away if he and Statham lose - but Statham is quite a decent doubles player, so they doubtless will want to win.
US has ten in the 2nd round of singles, of whom I think 5 are U21s, including two of their junior slam winners from this year. Quite a cohort. Most of them play seeds today, though ...
Kyle's form in the last couple of weeks is certainly a little worrying, maybe an injury or illness or maybe he is burnt out after playing quite a few tournaments and making good progress this season. Maybe the twin the disappointment of screwing up US Open qualifying and maybe even more so missing out on playing in the Davis Cup when he could have quite reasonably thought that he had earned his place in the team. Whatever the merits of the decision to play Evo it isn't hard to see how Kyle could have taken the decision as a massive kick in the teeth.
Klein is now in Shanghai qualies and Milton and Willis are second and third alts now. Have any of them got visas?
Marcus is out injured so he definitely won't be turning up.
Klein and Willis have withdrawn but Milton has made the cut. He looks like he's going to China the two weeks afterwards for challengers anyway, so he might be making the trip.
hopefully Kyle will bounce back, everyone has ups and downs in their development. Most contributors to this forum know this.
I think we are being a bit disrespectful to Darian King. He is no bunny, has won a number of futures this year (I think four) has beaten Bryden K who is playing pretty well and I see he has just beaten Ryan Harrison whom, whilst erratic, has also beaten some good players. I would doubt any contributors to this forum ( as one has suggested) would cause Mr King any problems on the court!!
