Maybe Kyle was injured given the way he was rolling in his serves. If not then words fail me at just how awful this performance was. If King would have been playing some great tennis then you could excuse this performance from Kyle but he was poor and Kyle was worse than poor. How you go from winning a first set against an opponent ranked 260 to what came after is unfathomable. It seemed inevitable that Kyle would cement his place in the top 100 a few weeks back but his current form is desperate. One wonders whether this loss in form started from his failure to get through to the US Open main draw after blowing MP's and he seems very sulky, lifeless and out of sorts at the moment.
I may be well off the mark here and have no inside knowledge of current circumstances. But my mind goes back to two years ago (or was it three) when at about this stage of the season, Kyle was hit with a mystery and debilitating illness. There was a lot of talk of glandular fever but in the end, they never knew what the problem was. He would simply begin some exercise and then run out of gas very quickly.
From what I have seen over the last two matches, it would not surprise me at all if Kyle was suffering something similar and that it could lead to him taking the rest of the season off. I really hope I am wrong, but attitude and mental strength have NEVER been issues for Kyle. which lead me to hypothesize about his physical state.
Nicofrance used the word "lifeless" and that is about as accurate is it can get.
That's just what I was thinking when reading the comments, BiS. Hope that he can get whatever it is sorted out. If it is recurring, it's something that they should really try to sort.
Very worrying that Kyle is apparently so listless, especially given that ( unexplained ? ) period a couple of years ago when he ended his season early and I believe had various tests for glandular fever etc.
Given he generally seems to me to have a good attitude, while undoubtably these appear on the face of it poor performances I am particularly reluctant to be damming when there might be more going on here that we are unaware of.
I don't generally clutch at the folk might be / must be injured or unwell thing ( though it sometimes turns out to be the case ), but as I said Kyle had that worrying period before.
And I find it rather difficult to believe that he's a guy just to be moody / gone into some sulk over results or whatever.
