That's it...I'm booking him an appointment to see someone. Anybody know anyone? He's lost 6 out of the last 7 close matches. All to people in the top 300. It's the only thing I can think he's missing!

Just got off the phone to him. He sounded really happy. He said it was the best match he has played all year. He's full of confidence, he says he's sure the results will come. (So modest) He's promised that if nothing changes by the end of the year then he will go and see someone.

That's good to hear, didn't see the game, but losing in a breaker to #1 seed doesn't suggest any huge mental collapse.
I'm more concerned that he sees Sports psychology as something to do when facing a crisis rather than an everyday part of athlete's support staff. anyway, I remain upbeat about him, sad he didn't pull through today but sounds like impressive performance.
Given that he seems to play better against better players, has he considered entering Challenger /250k qualies? Might be worth a try, can be good rewards and might suit his game.

That's something we're hoping to do as soon as he gets his ranking up a bit. With a ranking of 800, there's no guarantee that you will get in. He entered a few of the grass tournaments here in the summer and didn't get in any. Even though he lost today, he sounded confident. I'm hoping it will be the extra boost he needs to start winning these matches instead of losing them. If he had won those 6 tight matches, his ranking would probably be very different now.
