Does anyone know what his previous best career scalp was? Looks a great win by Mr Short though.

he has the year best scalp of roberto  ortega-olmedo who he has beaten twice this year! the first time Roberto was ranked 272

According to Helen Parish's "Career best wins" table, available well right here ( www.britishtennis.net ) Matwe Middelkoop, WR 270 when Matt beat him in 2011.

( I'm not sure if it's totally up to date, but certainly should be as at the end of last year )

That's a pretty huge win for Matt, especially coming back from 4-2 down in the decider. Not bad, not bad at all.

Hopefully he can build on that through the tournament. His half of the draw seems to have opened up nicely with the only seeded player in the top half being 5th seed Vivero Gonzalez.

Matt dropped the first set 6-1. Hopefully he can recover similarly to his R16 match...

I don't hold out any real hope for Matt today - life has to right itself.

I was just glad he managed to at least do the basics and get the R2 win.

Matt has broken back in the second set to tie in to 5-5. I think he may have been 5-1 down as well
