Instead of the 6th seed, Mark now gets a Pakistani wildcard unranked opponent, who was actually born in Guildford, it says, so GB followers may know him - Samir Iftikhar. I believe he's just finished college in the US.
Well done to Mr Bambridge. Fascinating score with the Tunisian for Mr Broady, especially in the absence of any further information (is this someone who doesn't travel outside Tunisia, so is underranked? young? old? playing a blinder?)
To be honest, I don't think there's anything particularly strange about Liam's score.
If you look at the lower events this week, Matt Short defeated a top 140 player, Ed Corrie lost to a guy ranked about 900, the second seed in Tunisia lost to a guy ranked 1000 places lower, the second seed in France very nearly lost to an unheard of 16 year-old ......
There's not a lot between a lot of these guys on one particular given day.
Players have good days and bad days, shocks ( to various extents ) happen. It's very much part of the beauty of tennis.
But if they keep happening or nearly happening against certain players, I tend to call that a trend, and one good to reverse asap.
Sami was quite a strong player as a youngster and presumably has continued to improve at Uni New Mexico. He ended last season at 90 in the college rankings. Believe he has also played Davis Cup for Pakistan.
Good to see all three through to the QFs. Wish Mr Bambridge hadn't drawn the 2nd seed, but he has beaten players higher ranked than that before, so ...
