Just back.
Well done to Johanna - really pleased for her
(Sorry that Vika had to retire though)

Azarenka has a bit of a history for retiring in lots of matches a little readily. Never when winning mind...

Well, Jaffa flagged still in the first set that Vika didn"t look at all comfortable and that he thought Vika would retire, and she's hardly had some clearly genuine injury problems to seek.

Anyway, Jo hits the 1,000 ranking points, now up to 1,001

Ms Konta's relentless drive to the top continues unabated. Keep going Ms. All the best. She gets my vote for Sports Personality of the Year .

Just realised it was 2014 I predicted Jo to be ahead of Heather so slightly annoyed now although I did call it in the Spring. Hey I actually predicted in the comp bears no resemblance to anything I've been thinking for months. Such is life.

Anyway Cmon Jo.

Well no-one predicted Jo to be GB no.1 so what do we all know....

Top 50 next?

I did last year predicted she would be ahead of Heather eventually and before Wimbledon so I'm claiming that along with Klein to overtake Wardy

I liked what I saw at the beginning of the match, when there were actually some long rallies, before Vika moved to Plan B, when her injury became worse. Fancy Jo would have given a fully fit Vika a decent match anyway.

R2: (Q) Johanna KONTA (GBR) 66 defeated Victoria AZARENKA (BLR) 23 6-4 1-0 RET

R3: (Q) Johanna KONTA (GBR) 66 vs. Simona HALEP (ROU) [1] 2 (=CH)
Just to underline the magnitude of the task, Halep is the YTD leader in hard court wins, on 40; 9 ahead of joint second placed Serena & KaPlisk.
She did lose early last week though, to, then WR 74, Denisa Allertova. So there is some chance.

It is huge, so no pressure. I'm just interested to see how she fairs.

I saw their previous encounter live ( tony might remember as well ) , but expecting a much more competitive match.

Yes I do remember that match - JoKo dominated.... for the first 5 points, and then Halep took control. Both players have come on since then, but I don't think anyone can beat Jo easily the way she is playing at the moment. I would predict Halep 6-4 7-5 or similar, but Jo has a chance for sure.

Jo vs Halep is scheduled 4th match on centre.
They give a time (18.30) but I guess that's only a rough guide. I think they are 6 hours ahead of BST, so around lunchtime I suppose.
Good luck Johanna!

Wuhan ( not Wigan my text preduct override ! ) is 7 hours ahead of BST so 18.30 is 11.30 am UK, but yes don't how likely that 18 30 time will end up.
