"With less funding I have a lot more expenses so right now nothing is really going into my pocket. Hopefully it wont be like that forever but I cant be naive. My poor team cant work for nothing.

Well done LTA.

I don't know, but I suspect she has had plenty of funding since she turned British.  At some point you have to be self sustaining as player.  It is after all a career choice and a profession - not a vocation.

Well, yes, but what about those who get the funding and are no good or those who get it when they clearly have the means to self-fund?

totally agree.  Not sure that funnelling resources from the no good to a top 50 player is the right answer.

But that is actually how the LTA seems to be more working !

Given general funding has been reduced, but is apparently given pretty substantially to such as Heather, Laura and Kyle, I would think that Jo has now more chance of getting more LTA funding.

She quite clearly didn't have funding reduced as a top 50 player, even top 100 player, on any basis that she could / should now make it more on her own since that rise is all very recent.

Like so many she basically had funding reduced because she wasn't seen as being potentially elite and / or as part of the so called "tough love" thing.

I find it rather cynical that the LTA actually fund the top flight players when they have millions coming in in sponsorship , prize money and in Murray's case appearance fees !

They are obviously funded this way to keep them on board, to be able to use their image rights,to claim some credit for their success and also to keep them from speaking negatively about the poor effort and ever changing shambolic methods of the LTA !

Their methods are indeed shambolic in every aspect, not just funding.

Murray isn't funded.
Just 4 players now funded. Katie Swan, Kyle Edmund, Liam Broady ,Laura Robson.

I Suspect one of those will get cut soon.

Thanks for that.

Yes, what a great interview - she comes across as articulate, thoughtful, yet determined. Well done Jonanna!

so Matt Little works for zero then ? I think you'll find the LTA might pay him to train Andy. Also you forgot to mention Miss Watson ? Oh and Jamie Murray ! Many players are funded in small ways ie access to coaching and camps but my point was that players who earn a fortune should not need to be funded and its immoral to keep them onside with cash ? Then again it is a sporting governing body !!

Matt Little has 2 employers, AM and the LTA and each pay him for their portion of time quite independently of the other.  So no, he doesn't work for free but his salary comes from 2 different and separate sources.

Can't comment on the rest of your post.

I really should have closed that post with a wink to highlight my cynicism.

Now that she's doing well the LTA can justify their decision by pointing to her success. If she had not succeeded they would justify themselves by saying she was not performing. Heads I win tails you lose "wink"

Yes. I hope the LTA haven't had the nerve to claim that it does justify their decision.
