What a shame for Konta, she played so well and if she could have got that match to the tie-break then I would have fancied her chances. She has nothing to feel down about. Even though she served for the match it wasn't like she threw the match away, Venus Williams is still a force to be reckoned with.
She needs a day off and it would have been very difficult even if she had got through, she must surely feel exhausted after her exploits this week.
Apparently Beijing qualifying starts tomorrow! I was hoping Konta would get a day off.
I've just checked the qualifying draw and theres no sign of Konta, I think she's pulled out. Unless she was given a WC but that's doubtful so it looks like she's giving Beijing a pass.

After all her matches here I was relatively unperturbed about her missing Beijing, especially if it was due to her reaching the SFs here, and it looks as if she had made the choice anyway. I do think a WC unlikely though wouldn't totally rule it out.
It feels very harsh to say, but if Jo had played at her recent very best I feel she would have won today. For the 1st time I detected a few nerves. Venus was all over the place, edging it when she was at her best, but then would go through periods when she looked as flat as a pancake. But when push came to shove she upped her level at 3-5, and it resulted in an epic end to the match, which Jo just came out on the wrong side of.
Not going to Beijing, which now looks the right call, given the very short turnaround, guaranteed to be inside the top 50 though.
