Week 2 - Australian Open Qualifying

As advertised, here's the thread re ranking points banked for 21/12/15, last rankings date before the qualifying list comes out ( the main draw entry list is based on the rankings from two weeks earlier, 07/12/15, however the only person with any points at all to drop between the two dates as of now that with currently over 200 points is Brydan and that's only 1 so this list really serves both the main and qualifying lists ).

Current WR 104 ( approximate WR required for main draw entry ) is on 501 points

Current WR 250 ( approximate entry list requirement ) is on 189 points

Current WR 270 ( optimistic shout ) is on 175 points

1. Andy :  A LOT, then with total ranking points from number of counters so far less points to come off  :

2. Aljaz : 817 (15)  :  832 (16) - 15(1)

3. Kyle : 470 (14)  :  533 (16) - 63(2)

4. James : 238 (11)  :  382 (17) - 144 (6)

5. Brydan : 236 (17)  :  311 (23) - 75 (6)

6. Dan E : 180 (9)  :  180 (9) - 0 (0)

7. Josh : 124 (best 18)  :  148 (best 22) - 24 (4)

8=. Liam : 121 (9)  :  253 (15) - 132 (6)

8=. Dan C : 121 (11)  :  147 (13) - 26(2)

10. Alex : 111 (16)  :  135 (18) - 24(2)

11. Dan S : 91 (12)  :  107 (17) - 16 (5)

12=. Ed : 83 (7)  :  144 (10) - 61 (3)

12=. Marcus : 83 (10)  :  120 (13) - 37 (3)

So, at the moment it's looking like 3 direct entries ( Andy, Aljaz certainly and Kyle has not too much to gather - i.e. about 30 points probably )

And looking like 3 qualifying entries ( James and Brydan have more than enough, but are less than halfway to the points needed for direct entry, Evo is just about there even with the WR 250 threshold, next best being Josh on 124 banked points, although already adding this week, with work for all after the top six to do to get to say 180 to 190 ranking points, but the challenge is there ... )

RE: Australian Open "banked" points for qualifying entry list

Thanks Indi. I will be following this thread with interest. Hoping for a late dash from some of the outside contenders. More than any other, I would be delighted if Liam can find the form of the last 3 months of 2014 and push his way back into contention.

Whilst some great results lower down the rankings a pretty quiet week for these guys.

A very useful 18 title points for Liam though and Brydan is the other who adds with an additional 8, net 5.

4. Brydan : 248 ( best 18 )

With now unfortunately all our higher ranked week 40 contenders out, I can update again.

Three players on the list of GB 3 to 13 have added this week. James 10, Liam 3 and Alex 2.

Would be good to see Evo add a few more points just to ensure he makes Aussie Open qualifying. Liam edges a bit closer, but it would have been good to again have taken a bigger step. Kyle still needing also to get these further points to ensure main draw entry. James and Brydan are now level on banked points, though James with less counters has a bit more room to increase his points, both though while clearly over the qualifying line are miles off contention for main draw entry.

3. Kyle : 470 (14)

4. James : 248 (12)

4. Brydan : 248 ( best 18 )

6. Dan E : 180 (9)

7. Liam : 144 (12)

8. Josh : 129 ( best 18 )

9. Dan C : 121 (11)

10. Alex : 113 (17)

and possibly not much longer for this list, largely due to not playing :

11. Dan S : 91 (12)

12. Ed : 86 (8)

13. Marcus : 83 (10)

Didn't realise how much danger Liam is in of missing the cut. Needs a good few wins in the last month or so here.

Latest update on "banked" points. Again not that much movement from this group - Liam adds another 7, Alex 6. The big moves have recently been coming from quite a lot lower ranked players ( good for them of course ).

I think the most interest now would clearly lie with:

Kyle re MD : he is on 470, WR 104 is on 529, WR 110 is on 503. It looked a dawdle a while ago, but now some concerns re his form and / or health.

Liam and Evo re QD : Liam is on 151, WR 250 is on 197, WR 270 is on 178. He's been edging up his points, 30 in the last 4 weeks, but still, as Jaggy notes, needs a good week or two ( or more), especially if the cut-off comes in about WR 250. Evo could do with a few more to be safe. He has been on 180 for a little while now.

Current points ( including Alex's future ones still to add on officially ) less points to come off by 21/12 :

3. Kyle : 470 (14 ) : 533 (16) - 63 (2)

4. James : 248 (12) : 335 (15) - 87 (3)

4. Brydan : 248 (best 18) : 288 (23) - 37 (4) - 3 ( lowest remaining )

6. Dan E : 180 (9) : 180 (9) - 0 (0)

7. Liam : 151 (13) : 255 (16) - 104 (3)

8. Josh : 129 (best 18) : 154 (24) - 21 (3) - 4 (lowest remaining 3)

9. Dan C : 121 (11) : 147 (13) - 26 (2)

10. Alex : 119 (18) : 119 (18) - 0 (0)

Additions for James +80, Evo +7 and Alex +18 ( net 17 )

WR 104 is on 539 points and even WR on 511 so Kyle remains in need of perhaps as much as about 70 points for Aussie Open MD entry. Great title for James, but still about 200 points off.

3. Kyle : 470 (14) : 533 (16) - 63 (2)

4. James : 328 (13) : 405 (15) - 77 (2)

5. Brydan : 248 ( best 18 ) : 288 (23) - 37 (4) - 3 ( lowest remaining 1 )

WR 250 is on 199 points, WR 260 on 192. Evo's now 187 points have him at WR 263. He has no points to drop, but may still need some to get to the qualifying entry spot. Liam remains next in line after Evo, followed now by Alex.

6. Dan E : 187 (10) : 187 (10) - 0

7. Liam : 151 (13) : 228 (15) - 77 (2)

8. Alex : 136 ( best 18 ) : 137 (19) - 0 - 1 ( lowest counter )

9. Josh : 129 ( best 18 ) : 154 (24) - 21 (3) - 4 ( lowest remaning 3 )

10. Dan C : 121 (11) : 147 (13) - 26 (2)

Thanks wolf, so WR 263 or thereabouts for Evo looks dodgy on the original cut-offs, but might already be OK if he is prepared to wait to get in, though wouldn't have quite been last year.

Though I believe too that there are are some Aussie Open travel reimbursements that might now weigh 2016 towards the recent 2015 tougher figure.

Oh, just win a few tennis matches Evo to make it all clearer.

Off topic a bit but James' win in Bangalore should see him make French Qualifying now.

quite astonishing that kyle may not make the MD. when he broke the top 100 there was such little fanfare as it seemed to just be a stepping stone for better things. but he's somewhat stalled since.

Just a couple of additions this week, James' and Brydan's challenger SFs. 29 points for James. 29, net 23, for Brydan. Kyle though is still the only realistic looking one to challenge making the MD, if he can rediscover his mojo.

3. Kyle : 470 (14)

4. James : 357 (14)

5. Brydan : 271 ( best 18 )

6. Dan E : 187 (10)

7. Liam : 151 (13)

8. Alex : 136 ( best 18 )

9. Josh : 129 ( best 18 )

10. Dan C : 121 (11)

Edit : The 02/11 rankings have Evo down 3 to WR 266 on his 187 points. So while he has no points to drop, he could still maybe do with picking up some to push up that ranking.

With just Alex, from these players adding net points this week ( 8, net 7, Brydan's 7 being no net gain ), I'll leave a fuller update until next week when hopefully some points from these with most realistic Aussie Open aspirations : Kyle for MD,  Evo and ( needing rather more ) Liam and Alex for qualifying.

Great to see Liam and Evo adding point this week. Evo is looking almost home and dry although another win or two would make it more comfortable. Liam definitely needs a couple more wins, preferably one more this week (at least) as a SF spot would take him to 180 and almost there.
