RE: Week 38 - ITF ($75K) - Albuquerque, USA Hard

GSM Broady 6-4 5-7 6-4
Another good week. Her attitude and body language is unrecognisable from 3 years ago and all in the most positive and admirable sense.
Impressive.

Sadikovic looked a talented player but made a few careless errors at key moments, twice losing her serve with a df, helping Naomi out with a poor backhand when she had 0-30 late on and another backhand error allowed Naomi to save bp earlier in the 3rd set. Naomi just about did enough to get the win. Thought her 2nd serve return was much better today. An occasional super shot from Naomi but most of the quality on display came from Amra.

Yes, I was quite struck by Naomi'a body language yesterday, a young lady who looked as if she belonged there against the top seed and was there to win.

Well done now on reaching the final

Naomi, Katie Swan and Freya all into finals and all going to further advance their CHs.

Continued consistently good form from Naomi ( or at least otherwise maintaining a decent level match after match ) and at their level very encouraging stuff from the youngsters.

Naomi interview on the commentary for the Krajicek v Boserup match. Starts about 30 mins on the stream. Think I heard her say she had just withdrawn from Las Vegas next week as she's been picking up a lot of minor injuries and needs a rest for 10 days. Some humour regarding her technique on her backhand.

Michaella Krajicek's tennis has been incredible so far. 18 aces in 32 first serves. And 9 dfs in 21 second serves. 8 points in a row that went df, df, df, ace, df, ace, ace, ace. Naomi will have to play brilliantly to be competitive if she keeps this up in the final.

Naomi needs a net gain of about 90 points to get main draw for Aus Open. Winning the final would earn her an extra 45.

Are you maybe basing ranking points needed on WR 104 assuming 16 qualifiers and 8 WCs? Looking at this year's Aussie Open there were just 12 qualifying spots in the women's singles and I am guessing it will be the same this next time, so WR 108 would appear to be more the target mark ( though PRs and withdrawals can swing it a bit either way ).

Naomi's points now, reaching the final : 490

If she wins the title, another 45 : 535

Current WR 108 : 544

Current WR 104 : 582

So, while the points for that WR 108 spot could of course vary a fair bit, currently she is just 54 net additional points away, and just 9 if she wins the title here. Who knows, 535 might end up being enough.

Whatever, in the form she's been in, and the European indoor season to come, it's not looking as if it will come down to margins. Naomi looks very likely to be in the Aussie Open main draw and the extra 45 points for winning the title here would have her already nearly there.

She has incidentally a net 1 point to defend for the rest of the year ( a 10 pointer in October less her best non counter of 9 ). So points defense is not an issue, though more points gaining will be reduced a bit by her bottom counter.

Another great battling result for Naomi :D
GL in the final albeit looks a toughie against the former world #30

Yep, if Naomi can carry this form into the indoor season she'll hopefully break into the top 100 and be a DA for the AO with something to spare :)

Naomi continuing the good form.

What is it with GB girls and playing well in the sep-nov stint. Happens every year.

I've never actually seen Naomi play, but she obviously has a potentially major weapon with her serve. I wonder if her career will emulate some of the other big server's who have transitioned into regular and dangerous top 100 players in their mid to late 20's, i.e. Kevin Anderson or Ivo Karlovic

Possibly - with the right people around her who can nurture her strength (the serve) and make it consistent. If you can consistently hold serve, you are always in a good position against anyone.

Broady 4-3 ahead which doesn't really tell the whole story as her serve has been woeful at times with 5 DF's in the 5th game, she had to save BP's in that game aswell as game 7. Overall this match is terrible in terms of quality and I'm only watching it to cheer on Broady!

First time watching Ms Broady. Apart from the serve, which technically is all over the place, her overall game is ordinary to say the least.
