RE: Week 38 - ITF ($75K) - Albuquerque, USA Hard

I think WTA qualies and some bigger ($75k+) ITFs are a good mix for Naomi right now. She wouldn't have expect to be ranked so highly when deciding her schedule, but that's a nice problem to have!

Certainly Naomi isn't shy about entering tournaments with 34 tournaments showing in the current rankings list.

Of the top 200, only An-Sophie Mestach (36), incidentally the top seed here, and Tatjana Maria (34) show at least as many tournaments in the last year.

Even Emily W-S ( further down the rankings but renowned as a serial tournament player ) "only" has 32.

Naomi made this more nerve shredding than it needed to be after missing 7 BP chances in the second set, then the tie break became very edgy with her missing several MP's before finally ending the drama!

I think she needs to be a bit more ruthless on BP chances but given the tiebreak drama she did well to hold herself together and not let this go into a 3rd set.

I suspect economics must drive Naomi's tournament selection. Not as though she has apartments in Manchester, London and Miami to retreat to for a training block, or lots of sponsor events to turn up at. She tends to travel around the world but do several events in one region if at all possible; hence the high number of tournaments entered. She's not really a good enough player to risk a limited schedule.

Naomi ( 441 points so far ) will now have more ranking points than Johanna ( 440 ) had on 20th July, and will now probably move ahead of Johanna's ranking then, WR 126.

Johanna is now WR 63. Now I wouldn't mind a similar path for Naomi

Mestach is really awful to watch! Very ordinary shots but frustratingly hard to put away in a rally. She also has really irritating habit of bouncing the ball very excessively before serving (anything from 15-30 bounces).

Yes I remember the ball bouncing from a couple of months ago - I watch a match she was playing in but had to stop after about 15 minutes because it was so annoying. It's like she has watched Djokovic and thought 'he bounces the ball 10 times before every point and is world No. 1 so if I bounce the ball 20 times I will be even better...'
