How has Lisa entered the main draw with her ranking?

Mestach is spectacularly ordinary, so if Naomi meets her and serves well - I'd be disappointed if she didn't win.

Don't know what Lisa is doing - up against 2nd seed - I know she's a good player but there's no need to do it all at once. If she'd been at Sharm there would be 4+ points waiting.

I know LR's lasts for a year - I don't know how long Lisa's last - If there's time pressure then I could understand.

She doesn't have much longer to use the PR's so she might as well use them, this will stand her in good stead for when she has to play at Sharm etc.

Lisa has until the start of Feb to use all her protected rankings.

She might as well. It will guarantee her points every week and a soft draw might pick up a few more. Also a good test to see where she is at.

Naomi follows her first ace with her first df, then saves bp with another ace, a 2nd bp saved before eventually holds to 40 5-1*

Fewer aces than usual (4) but return game looked decent from the stats. Spells when Naomi struggled to win points on her 2nd serve. This is an area that needs improvement from what I saw in Quebec. At the moment she appears to hit an occasional fast 2nd serve rather than being aggressive on a consistent basis.

Probably more of a test of motivation than anything else for Naomi coming off a WTA semi final to playing a low ranked opponent in an ITF. Pretty comfortable win but tougher tests to come.
