Good effort from Evo and really should have taken at least one set. Hopefully it won't come to it but that performance certainly suggests cause for optimism if his services are required Sunday afternoon.

Just drove home from Birmingham, I was sat literally right behind that AEGON sign opposite the camera which means my ugly mug was on there a few times!

Murray just excellent. Nishikori's service return in the first two sets was just incredible, I wouldn't fancy picking a winner between those two on Sunday.

Great day out.

Fine effort from Evo. Tie nicely set up for what could be an absolute corker of a day on Sunday. Personally I think Andy has to play tomorrow, even if it is thought to be a rubber that Jamie and Dom could win, Jamie and Andy could probably win it quicker.

After yesterday's win I think Andy has plenty of miles in the tank but I would like to see the risk of a Nishikora singles win mitigated.

A live Evo v Daniel rubber is a mouth watering prospect, their Vancouver meeting in August was a dog fight (indeed, a live score classic) with Evo coming back from the dead to win the final set, it resulted in me uttering my first and only tweet!

Not sure of the relevance that Andy & Jamie could probably win doubles quicker given a longer Jamie & Dom match doesn't add anything to Andy at all! ( OK, other than a bit of emotional sidelines exertion ). Actually an extended Jamie & Dom vs Nishikori+ match ( if Kei plays ) might be quite useful as long as our guys won it.

But yes, I'd agree with playing Andy in the doubles, mainly on the basis that I do see Andy & Jamie as a better bet to win in a doubles that we should be favourites for whoever plays, but is not a given. And with Andy's quick singles win on Friday he shouldn't be cumulatively too bad for Sunday even if it is a relatively long doubles match ( hopefully not though ).

I'm not convinced Taro Daniel would play in any live deciding rubber. Interesting first to see who plays doubles for them.

I think Andy will play the doubles, but I do wonder whether Leon should take the opportunity to give Dom some more experience as although Andy had pledged his allegiance for this year, he won't be available for every tie over the coming years.

When is the deadline for announcing the teams (if it hasn't already happened!)?

None of the Japanese have dubs rankings to write home about but I'm guessing Kei is under-ranked and might be able to turn his hand to it; if they save Kei for tomorrow surely they lose whoever we pick but Leon presumably has to second guess that; it would be nice for Dom & Jamie to get some game time but winning this fixture is of course first priority. I'd pick Andy and Jamie our two world number 2s :)

The doubles is not a given. So they should surely just pick who they feel is the best pair to help win this tie right here, right now.

I hope Dom gets paid something because he must feel a bit like a spare wheel......

Dom strikes me as a good team guy. He'll certainly accept it and every so often polish that Davis Cup winner trophy he has

Conceivably to do with the fact that Dom's dad, Andrei, is Polish & that he speaks the language? wink
