I'm not so sure I agree. It was only included in a player's point as a 500 event, so there was nothing stopping other players playing those events instead. It just makes the event even more pointless now.

Totally "pointless" in fact, if we are talking literally.  wink

I guess I am glad that Andy is playing overall esp. as a live rubber between Nishikori and Andy could be a corker but I have to say there is part of me that would love to see how the team would do if they had to take on Japan without Andy and try to get an upset somewhere rather than mostly trying to avoid upsets.

When is it they draw who plays first Friday?

Only in a reverse singles with the match won.

Andy and Kyle will start and Andy and Jamie in the doubles

I don't think it is in Evo's best interests to hang around just to play a dead rubber. He is due to play Indian Wells qualifying starting on the Tuesday so unless he is was going to play a live rubber I would rather see him in California by Saturday at the latest to give himself some time to get over the jet lag and get some practice on outdoor courts.

Indeed, I would prefer Evo in California rather than playing a Davis Cup dead rubber. But if he is in the team of four, unless we are 3-0 up ( and even that couldn't be clear until latish Saturday and more likely clearly won't be the case after Friday ) he will have to be at the DC until Sunday as at least cover for a possible live fifth rubber.

Whether he should be in the team of four or not I would decide purely on the DC merits of that selection. And if he is not, then yes fly away Evo.

Nice to see Neil involved.

Assuming that's another 'good idea' from the Leon Smith 'brain of good ideas' .....

Great stuff. Bring people in and let them experience the joy of Davis Cup.

When's the decision on Mr Bedene due - soon, isn't it?

And the players doing the rounds with the trophy too - always nice.

I believe it is March 20th & 21st for the meeting that will decide on Aljaz. Here is hoping it is good news and he is available for the later rounds as I think it is very likely we will have to do without Andy.

Yes, I certainly doubt Andy will play any QF match. But at least hopefully he will have helped secure us in the World Group for another year.

I didn't want Aljaz to appear just for the final last year, but I do hope he wins his appeal now that everyone is hopefully ready to go this time.
