I can see Andy only playing periodically. I suspect he will play singles only from now on and will probably play if Nishikori is available for Japan

Anyway looking long term - if Bedene becomes available and Kyle keeps progressing we may elect to play home matches on clay....

That first match is probably the least disruptive / difficult in its timing and location so I could see Andy appearing to help to at least secure our World Group place into 2017. Though yes quite likely just singles

A potential QF away to Serbia ( or indeed possibly Kazakhstan ) much less so.

Over the last four years, fair bit more often than not, certainly at World Group level.

2012 :

World Group R1, lost H vs Croatia - YES

World Group Play-Off, lost H vs Israel - YES

2013 :

Asia/Oceania Group, won H vs Indonesia - NO

Asia/Oceania Group, won H vs South Korea - NO

World Group Play-Off, won H vs Colombia - YES

2014 :

World Group R1, won H vs Canada - YES

World Group QF, lost H vs Czech Republic - NO

2015 :

World Group R1, lost A vs Canada - YES

World Group Play-Off, won A vs Colombia - YES

Before we get too excited, Andy Murray will probably not play a full Davis Cup year in 2016. He may play the 1st round or a relegation match to keep us in the world group, but don't expect more than that.

Actually, I think the 1st round is the one he's least likely to play.......believe that falls almost exactly when Murray junior is scheduled to arrive!

Can't see Andy playing 1st rd. Reckon he'll turn out for the wg play off if needed- difficult to see gb winning tie without Andy to Aljaz. Nice to see them pick Birmingham to get evo though

The NIA is literally a few hundred yards from Broad Street (home to dozens of nightclubs). What could possibly go wrong wink

I reckon this would be an epic tie if Murray and Nishikori didn't play. Friday would probably be pretty boring if they played.

I did notice that in the Q&A on the BBC site today Andy was adamant that he will play against Japan but will probably not play after that due to the Olympics. If Aljaz wins his appeal after the Japan tie it could be another good year.

I presume selecting Birmingham is tactical, the major component of which is the Japanese team meal to be organised on the Thursday night on the Ladypool Road.

From my experience, admittedly related to stag nights its like the Bermuda (Balti) Triangle in that people go in and then vanish for a couple of days, although on one occasion I was part of a group that re emerged on a Sunday morning to see England beat Australia way back in 05.

Great incentive for Evo to maintain his form into next year. Who knows a strong run by Lloyd Glasspool and Birmingham might take its rightful place as the UKs second tennis city after the northern powerhouse and metropolis that is Dunblane.
